2024 Enrolment Program Structure

To graduate you must complete the following: All courses listed may not be available each semester

The Master of Commerce degree requires the completion of 192 credit points (CP) comprising of the following:

  • 1 Business Research Design course (this is also a Capstone course) (12 CP) 
  • Business Specialisation sequence (4 courses) (48 CP) 
  • 11 courses* (132 CP) from the approved Commerce Specialisations elective list comprising of: 
  • Another Business Specialisation sequence (4 courses) (48 CP) and a combination of 7 courses from the approved Specialisation list only (84 CP)  

OR 

  • A combination of 11 courses* from the approved Specialisation list only (132 CP) 

*Students can also select an international study program (study tour up to a total of 24 credit points) offered by the College of Business.

Please note: All courses listed may not be available each Semester, this is important to note when planning your enrolments. You must ensure that you satisfy the academic requirements of your program in order to graduate. 

Masters Advanced Standing 

Your eligibility for masters advanced standing was assessed as part of the admissions process in line with the RMIT Credit Policy. Masters advanced standing will have been included in your offer letter if you were assessed as eligible and will show in your offer letter as course exemptions with MX grades.  

If you have received masters advanced standing as part of the admissions process, you are required to complete twelve (12) courses (144 credit points) in order to qualify for the degree. Please refer to this program map for details.  

If you have not received masters advance standing as part of the admissions process, you are required to complete sixteen (16) courses (192 credit points) in order to qualify for the degree. Please refer to this program map for details.

Capstone Courses

Capstone Courses are compulsory courses designed to consolidate the learning undertaken throughout the program and should be taken in your final semester of study.  Applications for credit transfer or recognition of prior learning will not be accepted for Capstone courses.

Stage A:

Semester 2 2022 Program changes

The four (4) Business Enabling courses have been removed from your program structure from Semester 2 2022:

  • BUSM1162 Management 1 - Managing People
  • BUSM3886 Business and Government in the Global Context
  • ISYS1028 Global Business and Social Technology: A Case Study Approach
  • ACCT2127 Accounting for Management Decisions

The four (4) Business Enabling courses are replaced with four (4) additional courses from the current Specialisations list. Please refer to the bottom of the program structure below for the Specialisations list.

 

Students who have already successfully completed or received exemptions for the four (4) Business Enabling courses, prior to Semester 2 2022:

These courses will be recognised as part of your program, and no further action is required. You may continue your program enrolment as planned.

 

Students who successfully completed or received exemptions for up to three of the four (4) Business Enabling courses, prior to Semester 2 2022, will need to complete additional courses as detailed below:

  • Students who have completed one Business Enabling course, must complete an additional three courses (36 credit points) from the options list.
  • Students who have completed two Business Enabling courses, must complete an additional two courses (24 credit points) from the options list.
  • Students who have completed three Business Enabling courses, must complete an additional one course (12 credit points) from the options list.

Please also note the following changes:

  • Course ECON1095 Quantitative Methods in Finance has been replaced by BAFI3288 Quantitative Financial Methods and Modelling.
  • Course title change: ISYS2396 Enterprise Systems will change title to Intelligent Enterprise Systems (effective Semester 1 2023).

 

Effective Semester 1, 2022, the 'Information Management' and 'Project Management' Specialisations are no longer be available.

Students who have completed any of the following courses from the 'Information Management' or 'Project Management' Specialisations before Semester 1, 2022, and have not yet completed the Specialisation, please note these courses will now count towards your Electives:

  1. If you have already completed ECON1239 Principles of Finance - you do not need to complete course BAFI3258 Managerial Finance.
  2. If you have already completed BAFI1059 Corporate Finance - you do not need to complete course ECON1113 Economic Analysis for Business (Semester 1, 2021 only).
  3. If you have completed BAFI2077 Investment Analysis - you do not need to complete course ECON1095 Quantitative Methods in Finance.
  4. BAFI1070 Financial Statement Analysis - No change.

Program Changes Effective Semester 2, 2021

  1. If you have not completed ECON1113 Economic Analysis for Business in Semester 1 2021, you must enrol into BAFI3261 Global Financial Markets and Institutions.
  2. If you have completed ECON1113 Economic Analysis for Business in Semester 1, 2021, you do not need to complete BAFI3261 Global Financial Markets and Institutions.
