Purpose of the Program

The Associate Degree in Business develops knowledge and skills in various business discipline areas across national and global business contexts. Embedded in this program are opportunities to practise and expand your knowledge and skills through workplace related business enviornments.

In this program, you will be exposed to a variety of learning experiences such as lectures and tutorials, collaborative tasks, and work integrated projects and activities. Embedded in the program are the skills and knowledge to enable you to practice and expand your learning experience through Work Integrated Learning (WIL). 

In the final year of the program the capstone experience course BUSM4446 International Business provides opportunities to reflect on and consolidate what you have learnt through applications to real-world scenarios.

The Associate Degree in Business provides you with various opportunities to develop skills for direct work outcomes as well as facilitate transition to further studies through embedded business communication and academic learning skills.  Successful completion of this program can lead to a business career in a number of industries and organisations or you may choose to articulate into the third year of a bachelor’s degree program in business.

Articulation and pathways

Students who undertake the Associate Degree in Business offered in partnership with SUIBE first apply for and are admitted to the RMIT Diploma of Commerce program as a pathway qualification. Upon successful completion of the RMIT Diploma of Commerce program, students are admitted to the second year of the Associate Degree in Business with credit for the 8 first-year courses.

Students who successfully complete the requirements for the Associate Degree in Business may be eligible for entry into any 3 or 4 year Bachelor of Business degree program offered at Melbourne, Vietnam or Singapore and receive credit for up to 2 years of full-time study

Entrance requirements

The AD010CSI Associate Degree in Business has been discontinued and the final intake will be in September 2023. It will be replaced with the AD029CSI Associate Degree in Business.

Academic Requirements

Successful completion of the RMIT Diploma of Commerce or

Successful completion of an Australian Year 12 or equivalent, with an average result of 50% or equivalent. For example, Gao San (Senior Middle 3) (Year 12) with an overall average of 70% for all subjects undertaken.

English Language Requirements

Successful completion of the RMIT Diploma of Commerce; or

RMIT English Worldwide (REW) EAP Advanced certificate (EAP Advanced 1 certificate pre-2011); or

Achievement of IELTS 6.0 score (with no band lower than 5.5)

The RMIT Associate Degree in Business is a generalist business award and does not have external accreditation from any professional association or accrediting body.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.

Library resources and services

As a student enrolled in an RMIT University program you can access many of the extensive collections of electronic resources and services provided from RMIT University Library. Resources include e-books, e-journals and newspapers and product data. Your RMIT student number will allow you to access all online resources through RMIT University Library.

Library subject guides and web based tutorials will support your learning. Electronic resources and the online Ask a Librarian reference service are accessible on and off campus 24 hours per day.
