Program Learning Outcomes Statement

The RMIT Associate Degree in Fashion and Textiles Merchandising is designed to develop a work-ready fashion merchandiser who will have broad knowledge and skills for paraprofessional work and/or further learning.  You will develop the requisite skills and graduate capabilities to succeed in the rapidly evolving fashion and textiles industry. This program has a strong emphasis on teamwork within a business environment contextualised for merchandising. You will be prepared for employment through the development of interrelationships and direct contact with industry.

When you graduate from this program you will be equipped with distinct program learning outcomes. You will be able to:

1. Apply and creatively adapt a body of theoretical and technical knowledge and skills in sourcing requirements to meet cultural and social needs of the target market.

2. A broad theoretical and technological knowledge of current business and professional practices leading to marketing and merchandising fashion products both locally and globally.

3. Investigate, analyse and interpret trends on design, materials and trims in fashion and related industry either locally or globally.

4. Apply initiative and judgement in planning, problem solving and decision making in your study to demonstrate personal and professional attributes to be work ready.

5. Analyse and interpret data to communicate effectively in roles of buyers, allocators and planners.

6. Demonstrate critical thinking and innovation when identifying and responding to problems in diverse context within the fashion and textiles industry.

7. Work with others in a range of roles and context, demonstrating cultural, environmental and social awareness.

8. Gather, analyse and interpret data to develop fashion and related products and present to peers or potential clients.
