Approach to learning and assessment

Your learning experience will involve a broad range of experiences and teaching modes. Weekly workshops and supervised studios are at the core of the Screen and Media Production learning experience, but learning and teaching modes will vary as appropriate to each course’s objectives and content.

Learning activities may include lectures, exercises, demonstrations, discussion, peer presentations, guest speakers, project work, case studies and field trips. Your learning will be supported by on-line resources and interaction.

Assessment is designed to give you opportunities to demonstrate your knowledge, skills and capabilities and receive formal feedback on your progress. The forms of assessment will vary from course to course, as appropriate to the stated learning outcomes and capabilities.

Your assessment within the Screen and Media Production program may include:

  • production projects: tasks of varying complexity, mostly collaborative or team-based, which incorporate numerous processes and stages to create a finished work of a kind relevant to industry.
  • folios, notes and plans: compilations of materials and notes for production tasks and work-in-progress on major projects such as screen media productions.
  • self-assessment and reflection: reflecting on your progress, achievements and experiences and articulating your insights.
  • assignments and presentations: in-class individual or group presentation of research, ideas and arguments on a chosen topic.
  • reports and technical documentation: related to agreements, permissions, risk management and legal issues.

You will also benefit from ongoing teacher feedback, workshops, class and group discussion, self- assessment and reflection, and peer review.

Work integrated learning

RMIT is committed to providing you with an education that strongly links formal learning with professional or vocational practice. As a student enrolled in this RMIT program you will:

  • undertake and be assessed on structured activities that allow you to learn, apply and demonstrate your professional or vocational practice;
  • interact with industry and community when undertaking these activities;
  • complete these activities in real work contexts or situations;

and in addition:

  • these interactions and the work contexts provide distinctive sources of feedback to you to assist your learning.

Any or all of these aspects of a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience may be simulated.

The WIL nominated course for this program is:

COMM2936 Major Production
