Approach to learning and assessment

Your learning experiences will include a broad range of study modes including:

Lectures - presentation of underpinning knowledge and concepts.

Tutorials - small groups which allow you to interact with your teachers and peers to explore, clarify and apply underpinning knowledge and concepts.

Case studies - opportunities to apply knowledge and skills to solve typical problems seen in the workplace.

Laboratory Sessions - provide hands on experience in technology and methods used to develop scientific information .

Personal study and research - using textbooks, journal articles and the internet to reinforce and broaden your understanding of the Health Industry. You will explore and critically evaluate a range of information sources.

Online learning - All courses make use of myRMIT, the online learning space at RMIT. Here you will be able to access course notes and materials as well as reference materials, quizzes and self-assessments. In some courses there will be online discussion forums moderated by the teacher. You will be introduced to a great range of resources that will be continue to be important as you enter the workforce.

In the second year you may have the opportunity to learn in a workplace environment where you will be able to apply some of the knowledge and skills you have learned to your chosen area of work.

Assessments

Assessment methodologies and tasks are opportunities for you to demonstrate what you have learnt, where you are able to apply knowledge and skills at an appropriate level, either in work or a simulated work context. As an independent learner, you should take responsibility to seek feedback from your peers, teachers and industry supervisors to develop and advance your skills and knowledge.

In this program, the range of assessment approaches may include: reports ( written and oral), practical assignments, examinations, tests and quizzes.

The course guide for each course will give further details of what is required in each case. It will be your responsibility to read this information carefully and meet all the requirements.

Additional Support

The Study and Learning Centre (SLC) is able to provide support for all students with Maths, English and General Study Skills.

The Equitable Learning Services provides support for any student who has special needs. This support may range from providing a note taker in classes to arranging for an adjusted assessment timetable. https://www.rmit.edu.au/students/support-and-facilities/student-support/equitable-learning-services

Work integrated learning

RMIT University is committed to providing you with an education that strongly links formal learning with professional or vocational practice. As a student enrolled in this RMIT University program you will:

  • undertake and be assessed on structured activities that allow you to learn, apply and demonstrate your professional or vocational practice;
  • interact with industry and community when undertaking these activities;
  • complete these activities in real work contexts or situations; and in addition
