The Associate Degree in Aviation (Professional Pilots) provides a tertiary award in conjunction with a structured aviation training program. This program meets the requirements of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) through the provision of theory and practical training. The program contains relevant and appropriate courses encompassing cognitive, technical and communication skills. The program design and associated capability development has been endorsed by a range of Aviation industry experts, consisting of senior pilots and operations personnel from Australia's major airlines and aerospace organisations. As a successful graduate of this program you will have completed a qualification aligned to CASA and industry pilot opportunities.
This program is designed to provide you with knowledge and skills that will enhance your value in the Aviation Industry environment and will also prepare you to undertake the CASA Recreational, Private and Commercial Pilot Licence Theory and Flight courses. In addition, you will undertake Airport Transport Licence 1 & 2 and Instrument rating theory and flight courses.
The AERO2590 Flying to Recreational Pilot Licence, AERO2592, Flying to Private Pilot Licence, AERO2596 Commercial Pilot Licence Flying and AERO2638 Flying to Instructor Rating courses provide you with a capstone experience, which will give you the opportunity to integrate, critically reflect on and consolidate what you have learnt in your program.
These licences focus on Australian aviation requirements, where you are able apply your critical thinking, judgement, problem-solving skills, and industry legislative knowledge as a capstone goal.
While most courses in the program are delivered on campus, others are delivered via a combination of predominantly online activities supported by some campus-based activities.

Articulation agreements enable you, on graduating from an RMIT program, to apply for advanced standing in a higher level RMIT program. The statements below provide you with information on articulation agreements that involve this program.
Graduates of the RMIT Associate Degree in Aviation (Professional Pilots) program (AD023HA) are guaranteed entry into the BP345 Bachelor of Aviation (Pilot Training) program with 144 credit points (= 1.5 years) of credit. You may also be eligible for credit into other RMIT programs after completing AD023HA – for information on this, check with the admissions officer of your program of choice.

AD023HA Associate Degree in Aviation (Professional Pilots) will be discontinued and will no longer accept new students after Semester 1, 2023.
Program entry requirements
Successful completion of an Australian Year 12 senior secondary certificate of education or equivalent.

Prerequisites
Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) prerequisite units 3 and 4 — a study score of at least 25 in English (ESL) or at least 20 in any other English; and a study score of at least 20 in Mathematics (any). OR The South Australian equivalent - The South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE)
English language requirements
A minimum IELTS (Academic module) overall score of 6.0, with no band below 5.5; or equivalent.

The AD023HA Associate Degree in Aviation (Professional Pilots) is not currently accredited by any external industry or professional body.
The Associate Degree in Aviation (Professional Pilot) program conducted by Hartwig Air and RMIT University Flight Training meets all the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) requirements. You will be prepared to undertake relevant CASA flying licences as well as the relevant CASA theory exams. Hartwig Air will also facilitate the relevant CASA flight tests and the associated cost of the first attempt for each flight test is incorporated in the course fee. It is preferable that you sit the CASA tests during the program. All flying activities are conducted under Hartwig Air and RMIT University's CASA approved Air Operator Certificates (AOC).
This program is also supported by a strong Industry Advisory Committee comprising of industry experts, BHP Group Limited, Australian Defense Force, Airport executives and airline representatives, to input into program training trends.
Top of pageStudent expenses and charges in addition to fees
Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees. Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.

As a student enrolled Hartwig Air, Parafield Airport, South Australia you will have limited RMIT services for courses being undertaken. However once on Point Cook and City campuses you will have full access to services, facilities and study space provided by the Library. You can access books, journals and other course related materials, such as DVDs, past exams, newspapers and e-books. Through our document delivery service you can also request items from any library in the world.
Library staff can show you how to find information for your assignments or you can work through web-based tutorials or use our online Ask a Librarian service.
The Library is continually expanding our electronic collections to make it easier for you to get the information you need when you need it. All RMIT University students have unlimited access to quality electronic resources such as, e-books, e-journals and newspapers.
