Purpose of the Program

The Bachelor of Applied Science (Psychology) (Honours) program will provide you with a thorough education in the scientific discipline of psychology and introduce you  to the application of the discipline. As a graduate, you will have sound evidence-based knowledge as a foundation for entering either employment where the knowledge and approaches of psychology can be used, or advanced level psychology programs (e.g., Master of Psychology or Doctoral level programs). In addition, as a graduate from this program you will acquire a basis for life-long learning in a changing world.

According to the RMIT University Policy on Work Integrated Learning, there are no WIL courses or capstone courses undertaken as part of a one year Bachelors honours degree. The Work integrated Learning is normally undertaken in the subsequent Masters Program.

This program is offered in face-to-face mode (on campus), with support for flexible learning where appropriate.

Articulation and pathways

Applicants may be eligible for credit into other RMIT programs upon successful completion of this program.  Please check with the selection officer of the program of your choice. This program does not articulate with any other programs.

Completion of this program will enable you to apply for entry into an APS approved Masters level award and may allow application to a Doctoral award.

Entrance requirements

Successful completion of a Bachelor degree that includes an APAC-approved three-year psychology sequence with an average of at least 75% for the entire APAC-approved sequence.

OR

Any undergraduate degree and successful completion of an APAC-approved fourth year of study in psychology, with an average of at least 75% for the entire APAC-approved sequence.

External accreditation and industry links

The Bachelor of Applied Science (Psychology) (Honours) is accredited with conditions by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC). The program provides a pathway to further study that lead to registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency's (AHPRA) Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) as a Psychologist.

This program has an Industry Advisory Committee (IAC) comprised of external members drawn from a diverse external industry base and institutions. These provide opportunities for networking and are a useful link in ensuring that the teaching material and student capabilities remain close to the needs to future employers. In addition, the academic area of psychology has a number of industry contacts, relationships and adjunct professors who can help you in your study as well as offer advice on professional careers. These contacts are made initially through your university lecturers and program manager.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.

Library, IT and specialist resources

Library resources and services

As a student enrolled in a program at RMIT University you can access the extensive services, facilities and study space provided by the Library. You can access books, journals and other course related materials, such as DVDs, past exams, newspapers and e-books. Through our document delivery service you can also request items from any library in the world.

Computers for study are available at every Library site, where you can access the Internet, myRMIT (www.rmit.edu.au/myrmit) or Library e-resources. If you have a laptop you can access the RMIT University wireless network in the Library.

Library staff can show you how to find information for your assignments or you can work through web-based tutorials or use our online Ask a Librarian service.

The Library is continually expanding our electronic collections to make it easier for you to get the information you need when you need it. All RMIT University students have unlimited access to quality electronic resources such as, e-books, e-journals and newspapers.
