Approach to learning and assessment

The program uses a variety of teaching and learning approaches, with a major focus on intensive studio and workshop practice. The studios and workshops are places in which you will refine and develop your practical, theoretical and conceptual skills through development of an independently generated studio/project proposal negotiated with supervisory staff. The program involves regular engagement in review, critique and analysis of work through discussion with staff and peers in both individual and group critiques and tutorials. Independent research forms an integral part of the program structure focusing on locating and developing your personal artistic practice within a broader understanding of historical and contemporary art critique and discourse and providing a firm foundation for embarking on a career as an independent arts practitioner or as preparation for further advanced study at post-graduate level.

Assessment:

  • Proposal and exegesis – the presentation of ideas and arguments that respond to historical and contemporary art critique and discourse and research methodologies
  • Presentations – oral and visual presentation of your ideas and research
  • Progressive review based assessment of your work
  • An Honours Independent Project – A major project consisting of 50% Process and 50% Resolution components in formats agreed between you and the supervisory team.

In 2020, courses in BH052 were renamed to provide greater clarity for students and to more accurately describe the course content.
