Purpose of the Program

This program has been designed to equip you with a transferable skill set relevant for a future career in academic and applied research (including further learning), diagnostic services, industry, medical marketing, scientific communication and many other STEM-related careers.

As a higher performing student with a completed BBiomedSc, BHealthSc or equivalent program of study, this program will offer you the opportunity to specialise in Health and Biomedical Sciences research. The program is delivered in face to face mode and is not available by online distance education.

This program will:

  1. Enhance your prospects of employment by helping you develop a variety of transferrable skills that are increasingly sort after by employers. 
  2. Provide you with an appropriate training environment in scientific methods, research strategy, laboratory skills and communication skills as preparation for higher degree research programs, particularly MSc and PhD programs in STEM College.

    During the program you will complete a series of courses which focus on a research project:

    Entrance requirements

    Academic Requirements

    To be eligible for entry into this Honours program, you must have:

    1. Successfully completed an Australian bachelor degree (or international equivalent), with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 out of 4.0 overall in one of the following cognate areas: Biomedical Science, Laboratory Medicine, Medical Radiation, Exercise Science, Physical Science, Pharmaceutical Science, Chinese Medicine, Nursing, or Health Science/Science with a clinical discipline.
    2. Satisfactorily completed an interview with a project supervisor and had them agree to supervise you. Supervisors will consider your skills, interests, and background to determine suitability for the nominated project.

    International qualifications are assessed for comparability to Australian qualifications according to the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

    English Language Requirements

    A minimum IELTS (Academic module) overall score of 6.5, with no band below 6.0; or equivalent. For equivalents to English entry requirements, see the English equivalents web page.

    Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

    Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.

    Library resources and services
    As a student enrolled in a program at RMIT University you can access the extensive services, facilities and study space provided by the Library.
