Approach to learning and assessment

The Pharmaceutical Sciences (Honours) degree is a 1-year program consisting of professional practice placement in the pharmaceutical industry. The program has been developed in consultation with industry, and provides a leading edge for you to contribute to the pharmaceutical industry and provides opportunities to acquire a range of professional skills.

The professional skills are acquired during a period of up to 40 weeks of supervised placement in a therapeutic goods company, research laboratory, hospital, clinical trials organisation, government regulatory authority or other relevant organisation. The placement aims to provide you with experience, skills, knowledge and attributes that characterise a therapeutic sciences professional that can only be obtained in the workplace. Hence the learning activities will vary depending on your placement position and workplace.

Assessments include:

  • Assignments, case studies and interviews
  • Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Log 
  • Evidence portfolio
  • Literature review
  • Organisational analysis report 
  • Participation in workshops (communication on experience)
  • Performance appraisal from industry supervisor
  • Reflective professional journal 
  • Seminar presentations

Work integrated learning

RMIT is committed to providing you with an education that strongly links formal learning with workplace experience.  As a student enrolled in this RMIT program you will:

  • undertake and be assessed on structured activities that allow you to learn, apply and  demonstrate your professional or vocational practice
  • interact with industry and community when undertaking these activities
  • complete these activities in real work contexts or situations.

  • Research Methods for Health and Medical Science 2: Professional Training (ONPS2539)

  • Professional Research Project 1: Development and Implementation (ONPS2540)

  • Research Methods for health and Medical Science 1: Case Study (ONPS2542)

You will be assessed on professional or vocational work in a workplace setting and receive feedback from those involved in your industry.

Program Structure

For students who commence their study in this program from 1 January 2016 onwards, your mark in all courses in which you enrol in this program will be included in the weighted average mark that will determine the honours level of your award once you have completed the program.
