The program learning outcomes for this program reflect the Professional capabilities for medical radiation practice developed by the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia (MRPBA professional capabilities).

Professional and ethical conduct

practise in an ethical and professional manner, consistent with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements

provide each patient/client with an appropriate level of dignity and care

assume responsibility, and accept accountability, for professional decisions, and

advocate on behalf of the patient/client, when appropriate, within the context of the practitioners particular division of registration.

Communication and collaboration

communicate clearly, sensitively and effectively with patient/client and your family or carers, and

collaborate with other health practitioners.

Evidence based practice and professional learning

apply critical and reflective thinking to resolve clinical challenges, and

identify ongoing professional learning needs and opportunities.

Radiation safety and risk management

implement safe radiation practice appropriate to your division of registration

Practice in medical radiation sciences

apply an understanding of anatomy, physiology and pathology that is appropriate to your division of registration  K1, S1

apply principles of medical radiation physics and instrumentation

use patient information management systems appropriately

confirm the procedure according to clinical indicators

assess patient/clients capacity to receive care

deliver patient/client care appropriate to your division of registration

manage and manipulate 3D datasets for diagnostic image production, and

apply knowledge of pharmaceuticals relevant to your division of registration.

Practice in nuclear medicine (BP148NM)

implement the preparation and assess purity of radiopharmaceuticals

explain the biodistribution and applications of radiopharmaceuticals including therapies

implement routine nuclear medicine imaging

implement computed tomography (CT) imaging for nuclear medicine imaging

implement the delivery of nuclear medicine radioisotope examinations and therapies, and

describe how to undertake in vivo and in vitro laboratory procedures.

explain the principles and clinical applications of ultrasound imaging and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, and

alert the appropriate health professional when they observe significant findings of a medically urgent nature.
