Purpose of the Program

The RMIT Bachelor of Applied Science (Fashion & Textiles Merchandising) program is designed to develop a work ready fashion merchandiser who will have the requisite skills and knowledge to succeed in the rapidly evolving fashion and textiles industry.

This degree builds on your skills and knowledge developed in the Associate Degree in Fashion and Textile Merchandising program.  In this program you will further develop these capabilities to develop marketing strategies in a competitive global fashion and textile environment. This includes strategic analysis of:

- The changing marketing environment both internal and external

- Strategic tools and perspectives including qualitative and quantitative market research

- Product and customer analysis

- Distribution and sustainability decisions.

You will apply fashion-merchandising theories related to consumer demand for apparel and related products. Concepts of market intelligence, merchandise styling, sourcing and the role of buying are evaluated and interpreted. You will also learn to identify and apply industry-relevant software including design, retail, supply chain management and manufacturing packages.

You will develop work ready capabilities to promote yourself to prospective employers or potential clients in a local or global context. As a graduate of this program you can expect to be employed in fashion, advertising and marketing, brand management, product development, buying, merchandising, and range coordination.

Articulation and pathways

Upon your successful completion of the Bachelor of Applied Science (Fashion & Textiles Merchandising) degree you will be eligible to apply for entry into the Master of Fashion & Textiles (coursework) MC213 from the RMIT University School of Fashion and Textiles, Melbourne, Australia.

Entrance requirements

Academic entry requirement:

Successful completion of a Vietnamese final year Senior High School qualification and the provision of the Bangtot nghiep tung hoc pho thong (Upper Secondary School Graduation Diploma - Trung Binh/Kha/Gioi) or equivalent.

Applicants who do not meet the academic entry requirement may be eligible for selection if they have completed 3 years of work experience in the fashion merchandising industry.

English language requirements

A minimum IELTS (Academic module) overall score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0, or equivalent.

External accreditation and industry links

There are no professional bodies that accredit programs in fashion and textile merchandising.

The program has a Program Advisory Committee comprised of people drawn from the Fashion & Textiles Industry to inform and maintain links with industry for relevance, mentoring and work integrated learning projects.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.
