Approach to learning and assessment

In tutorials and laboratories, you will have the opportunity to develop problem-solving and analytical skills and you will be challenged to seek out new and unexpected solutions to advertising opportunities. Working as individuals or in teams you will initiate, plan, create and produce effective advertising campaigns that generate attention to brands and products, build an emotional bond with consumers, and develop the knowledge and skills to critically appraise and evaluate these executions. Elements of this program may be delivered face-to-face, online or a mix of both.

Lectures explore the more theoretical aspects of advertising: advertising principles, regulations, structures and responsibilities, media choice, branding theory, the influence of the past on contemporary advertising, the impact of globalisation and technology, and the ongoing social and ethical debates and dilemmas that surround advertising practice. Seminars will focus on recent industry developments and examine the wider issues involved in creating and managing advertising. You will develop an understanding of how target markets, budgets, production, consumer research, media selection and the various stakeholders impact on and influence advertising outcomes.

In studios, learning emerges through making: an investigative and creative process driven by research, exploration and experimentation, critique and reflection.
