Approach to learning and assessment

You are exposed to a variety of learning and teaching modes and approaches, giving you a breadth of experience of tertiary education with hands-on experience in developing the skills of a communication professional. Depending on your choice of courses, learning and teaching modes will include interactive coursework seminars, online components, case studies, reflective techniques, lecture and tutorial presentations in large and small classes, group-based learning, use of computer and production laboratories, and negotiated learning such as work-based projects.

This program utilises a range of assessment methods to evaluate student learning against stated learning outcomes for the individual courses. Those methods include a variety of written genres such as short written exercises, longer critical essays, literature reviews, online publication, as well as personal presentations in small or larger class settings, and production pieces in your chosen professional specialisation.  Assessment activities will include a clear account of the criteria for satisfactory performance in assessment, with feedback being given to help you understand how your learning is progressing against the specified learning objectives of each course and possibilities for improvement.

Program materials will be available to you both in hard copy and via the Online Learning System. All courses in this program have at least minimum online presence. You will also be given opportunity to provide feedback on the course to enable ongoing development of teaching and learning content and process.
