Purpose of the Program

This HRM program provides you with the skills and knowledge to develop a successful career. The program will prepare you to be ready to work in a variety of career options as a HR professional as it combines theory with practical application to be relevant and linked in to the everyday work environment. The HRM program will encourage you to develop and apply critical thinking and problem solving skills, to access and analyse information and improve your capacity to effectively communicate in oral and written forms. The program will encourage you to be a lifelong learner that seeks to engage in ethical practices in your professional and personal life, and to value social equity and cultural diversity. 

This industry focused major is accredited by the Australian Human Resource Institute (AHRI). The course aims to prepare you to meet standards of professional excellence with knowledge and skills that are recognized in Australia and overseas, and make you a competitive job seeker in the HR profession. 

The program will enable you to engage in a critical manner to the challenges and opportunities associated with the management of people and the contemporary challenges employees, managers and organisations face in the workplace. You will engage with industry experts and establish lasting collaborative networks. 

In the final year of the program, the HR major concludes with a capstone course. The capstone course BUSM2616 Managing People for the Future (12 credit points) provides you with the opportunity to apply your knowledge, skills, and imagination, and to put in place practical experience that prepares you to transit into the world of business, work and community as an aware global citizen. 

Successful completion of the program will assist you to obtain employment in a wide variety of organisational settings and occupations, such as the human resources advisor, health and safety officer, trade unions, recruitment, rewards and remuneration advisor, employee relation consultant, and learning and development officer.

Articulation and pathways

Credit and exemptions will be assessed consistent with the principles of the RMIT University Credit Policy. If you have completed studies or have partially completed a similar program at another institution (with entry criteria similar to this program) you may be accepted with some credits or exemptions being granted towards this program.

Credit pathways between RMIT University VET programs, Higher Education Diplomas & Associate Degrees in the same or related discipline, enable you upon successful completion of a lower level qualification, at the required standard for admission, to apply for advanced standing in a higher level qualification.

Credit pathways between RMIT University programs enable you upon graduating from an RMIT University qualification to apply for advanced standing in a higher level qualification.

Entrance requirements

Semester 1, 2022 is the final intake for BP276 Bachelor of Business (Human Resource Management).

Applicants with recent secondary education (current and within the past two years):

Successful completion of an Australian Year 12 senior secondary certificate of education or equivalent. VCE study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL or equivalent.

If applicable, this includes equity access schemes and any other adjustment factors.

Vocational Education and Training study applicants:

Successful completion of an Australian Diploma or Advanced Diploma or equivalent overseas qualification.

Higher Education Diploma applicants:

Successful completion of an Australian Higher Education Diploma or equivalent overseas qualification.

Associate Degree applicants:

Domestic applicants who have successfully completed the equivalent of four courses in an Australian Associate Degree with GPA converted to ATAR and no double-fail in any required course of the receiving degree.

International applicants who have successfully completed the equivalent of eight courses in an Australian Associate Degree and no double-fail in any required course of the receiving degree.

All Bachelor Degree applicants:

Domestic applicants who have successfully completed the equivalent of two courses at an Australian Bachelor Degree with GPA converted to ATAR and no double-fail in any required course of the receiving degree.

International applicants who have successfully completed the equivalent of four courses at an Australian Bachelor Degree and no double-fail in any required course of the receiving degree.

Open Universities Australia (OUA) applicants:

Successful completion of two Open Universities Australia higher education units. Scored or graded results are required.

Entrance requirements for international onshore applicants:

All non-Australian residents and overseas full-fee paying students are required to meet RMIT  English language requirements. For more information on these requirements see English Language Requirements at RMIT.

Applicants with Work and Life experience:

You may satisfy the academic requirements by completing the STAT multiple choice. If you are applying to RMIT as an applicant with work or life experience, you may sit the STAT multiple choice if you:

  • are 19 years of age or over as of 1 January in the year in which you will start your studies and
  • have not been enrolled in secondary studies for at least two years and
  • have no prior secondary school (Year 12), VET studies, HE studies or relevant work experience that can be considered for entry, or these do not meet the minimum academic requirements for the program

STAT results are valid for two years prior to the commencement of study and can be used to meet Year 12 English prerequisites. You are still required to meet all other program prerequisites or equivalents.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees. Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.
