Purpose of the Program

The Bachelor of Fashion (Merchandise Management) program is designed to develop a work ready fashion merchandiser who will have the requisite skills and knowledge to succeed in the rapidly evolving fashion and textiles industry.

All courses in the program require on campus attendance with on line learning support provided.

This degree builds on your skills and knowledge developed in the Associate Degree in Fashion and Textile Merchandising program or previous equivalent qualification.  In this program you will further develop these capabilities to develop relevant management, marketing and business strategies for a competitive global fashion environment. This includes strategic analysis of:

  • The changing fashion merchandising and marketing environments both internal and external
  • Strategic tools and perspectives including qualitative and quantitative market research
  • Product and customer analysis
  • Global and local supply chains and how you can lead within them
  • Distribution and sustainability decisions.

This degree provides the management, entrepreneurial and business knowledge and capabilities to work as a manager in retail, merchandising, buying and planning in large scale fashion operations within the global fashion industry.  You will apply fashion-merchandising theories related to consumer demand for apparel and related products. Concepts of market intelligence, merchandise styling, sourcing and the role of buying are evaluated and interpreted. You will also learn to identify and apply industry-relevant software including design, retail, supply chain management and manufacturing packages.

You will develop work ready capabilities to promote yourself to prospective employers or potential clients in a local or global context. In your final year you will undertake a capstone experience in MANU1459 Major Project A and MANU1458 Major Project B.  This experience will enable you to synthesise and integrate your knowledge, connect theory and practice, and demonstrate your holistic achievement of the program learning outcomes.

As a graduate of this program you can expect to be employed in fashion, advertising and marketing, brand management, product development, buying, merchandising, and range coordination.
