Approach to learning and assessment

You will be developing your program learning outcomes through a range of online and face-to-face learning experiences such as:

Lectures - presentation of fashion and textiles concepts and theories

Tutorials - space to expand on concepts and theories, explore and clarify issues and apply theories to practice.

Assessment methodologies and tasks are opportunities for you to demonstrate that you have learnt and that you are able to apply knowledge and skills at an appropriate level and relevant environment. As an independent learner, you are encouraged to seek feedback from your peers, lecturers and industry partners to develop and enhance your capabilities. In this program a range of assessment approaches may include:

Tests and Quizzes - to demonstrate your knowledge and capability to address theory and practice of various key issues

Case studies - review, critique, analyse and interpret industry practices

Research tasks - an introduction to research industry practices including social and cultural perspectives in industry projects

Problem solving - investigate, analyse and interpret fashion and textile related issues

Presentation - communicate your research interpretations to teachers, peers and industry participants

Reports - individual written reports based on research and analysis of industry issues.

All courses in the program have online resources and you will have an opportunity to provide feedback on the course to enable ongoing program development.

You are encouraged to be resourceful and share and research information gained from both external and internal sources.

Should you require special support, you can access appropriate University services including the Study and Learning Centre, Equitable Learning Services, Counselling Service. Other services can be found on the RMIT Student Homepage.

Work integrated learning

RMIT is committed to providing students with an education that strongly links formal learning with workplace experience. As a student enrolled in an RMIT program you will:

  • undertake and be assessed on structured activities that will allow you to learn, apply and demonstrate your professional practise;
  • interact with industry and the community when undertaking such activities;
  • complete activities in a work context or situation which may include teamwork with other students from different disciplines;
  • underpin your learning with feedback from interactions and contexts distinctive to workplace experiences.

In this program you will be doing specific courses that focus on the integration of work based learning commonly referred to as Work Integrated Learning (WIL). This will allow you to solve authentic industry problems or address real issues faced in organisations.

You will be assessed on professional work in a workplace setting (real or simulated) and receive feedback on your learning activities and assessment tasks from those involved in your industry.

The predominant courses in which you will gain your WIL experience are: MANU1459 Major Project A and MANU1458 Major Project B.
