Approach to learning and assessment

Over the duration of your program, you will experience a variety of approaches to teaching and learning. The approaches used in each course will be appropriate to the core curriculum areas which are designed to assist you in developing skills as an independent and lifelong learner. The program will achieve these learning and professional outcomes through the consistent and extensive use of updated courseware that has been designed with your needs as its central plank.

The major styles of teaching and learning you will experience throughout your program will include, but are not limited to the following:

Blended Learning: This method of learning is a combination of both on-campus, face-to-face and technologically-mediated interactions between students, teachers and learning resources.  These modes of delivery provide an environment where you can ask questions and seek feedback as well as contribute to class discussion with your peers. This program also makes use of online resources, activities and collaborations to enrich your learning experience through Canvas. It may also require you to complete tasks before attending face-to-face classes to ensure time is maximised and provides meaningful context for your learning.

Project-Based Learning: You may work in a small team, or individually to apply knowledge to solve problems and examine case studies. This technique is designed to simulate the experiences you will encounter working as a as a professional in industry.

Assignments and Projects: These may be either research or project-based and may be undertaken in teams or individually. They will provide you with experience at undertaking research and applying reasoning. You will learn to write effectively and to present your findings and advice to a range of audiences. They may also require you to deliver oral presentations. Assignments and projects are also designed to provide feedback on your skills development so you can utilise this feedback to improve and  develop your capabilities in the relevant area. This program will also have a variety of skills and relevant industry microcredentials embedded into the assessment tasks which will increase your readiness for your future career. You will also have access to a wider marketplace of micro-credentials which you can use to curate and personalise your learning journey.

If you have a long-term medical condition, disability and/or other forms of disadvantage, it may be possible to negotiate to vary aspects of the learning or assessment methods. You can contact the program coordinator or the Equitable Learning Services (ELS) if you would like to find out more: www.rmit.edu.au/students/support-and-facilities/student-support/equitable-learning-services.

If you have already developed areas of skill and knowledge included in this program (for example, through prior studies or work experience), you can apply for credit once you have enrolled in this program. There is information on the RMIT University website about how to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) www.rmit.edu.au/students/student-essentials/enrolment/apply-for-credit.

For more information on assessment, refer to the RMIT Assessment Processes policy.

Work integrated learning

Non-designated WIL Courses:

Due to the stackable nature of this program, there is a large component of choice throughout, which means that each student is likely to fulfil their remaining WIL component in different ways. All of the courses listed below include Work Integrated Learning (WIL) and you will need to complete one or more of these courses to progress through your program, therefore guaranteeing that you will complete at least 24 Credit Points of WIL (and up to 84 Credit Points of WIL, depending on courses chosen) during your Bachelor of Business Innovation and Enterprise degree.

Year 2 Projects that are non-designated WIL courses(each course is 12 credit points):

  • MKTG1479 Data Analytics and Marketing Project
  • BUSM2540 Cybersecurity Applications Project
  • BUSM2551 Social Services Sector Project
  • BUSM2546 Global Business Project

Year 3 Projects that are non-designated WIL courses(each course is 12 credit points):

  • BUSM2538 Business Innovation Project
  • BUSM2545 Fashion Industry Project

As well as more structured Work Integrated Learning in the curriculum, this program will expand boundaries by developing skillsets and mind-sets required for a future world of work. This will be done by ensuring that content is strongly connected to industry needs and reflective of the changing workplace, and that skills are developed and recognised through the use of digital credentials, which are continually updated to meet industry demand and need. This provides a graduate of this program with a strong evidence of their knowledge and skills when seeking work.
