Purpose of the Program

The Course in Working Safely in the Solar Industry provides an accredited training program and vocational outcomes for persons wishing to gain the skills and knowledge required for the installation of Photovoltaic (PV) systems and solar water systems.

On completion participants will have the skills and knowledge to:

  • Install PV/solar collectors systems
  • Work safely on roofs
  • Work safely at heights
  • Identify and report asbestos

Articulation and pathways

Applicants who have already successfully completed any endorsed unit of competency from previous study will receive direct credit transfer for the same unit/s in this course.

Graduates of this course will also gain direct credit transfer of units successfully completed in any future courses containing the same units.

There are no formal articulation arrangements negotiated and established for the Course in Working Safely in the Solar Industry with higher education courses.

Entrance requirements

Learners wishing to enter this qualification will be electricians, plumbers, building practitioners, trades assistants and apprentices across these industries who install solar panel/water collectors.

Learners are best equipped to achieve the outcomes of the Course in Working Safely in the Solar Industry, if they have minimum language, literacy and numeracy skills that are equivalent to level 3 of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF).

Learners will be required to hold statement of attainment for the following UOC and apply for a Credit Transfer:

CPCCWHS2001 Apply WHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry or the equivalent unit of competency 

CPCCCM2010B Work safely at heights - must have been attained within 6 years to be current if learner intends on applying for accreditation for grid-connect install or SPS install as per accreditation requirements of Clean Energy Council 

CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry 

HLTAID003 Provide first aid - must have been attained within 3 years to be current.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.
