Purpose of the Program

The purpose of this program is to recognise current competency of industry experienced workers and tailor a learning plan to their requirements.

Building and construction is the study of the principles, techniques and regulations involved in the building and construction industry for all types of low rise (residential) projects.

You’ll also learn about aspects of the building industry, including project planning and management, project estimating and costing, contracts, business management, materials use, structures, occupational health and safety, cost control and office management/administration.

Articulation and pathways

Graduates from this program may be able to articulate to the Diploma of Building and Construction (C5256).

You may be eligible for credit into other RMIT University programs for successfully completing this program upon application to other RMIT University programs. Please check with admissions officer of your program of choice.

Entrance requirements

 

Applicants should have a minimum of 3 years experience post trade or demonstrated experience, in areas such as carpentry, bricklaying, concreting, plumbing, electrical.

Entry is via interview with a panel of staff and industry representatives and a short quiz.

This program is targeted to people currently working in the construction industry with a minimum of 3 years post trade demonstrated work experience.

This program has been developed as a model targeted for builder registration in Victoria subject to VBA requirements.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.

Library resources and services
