Approach to learning and assessment

To complete the requirements for the Certificate IV in Education Support, you will be required to successfully complete 12 Core Units and 5 Elective units.

Classes are timetabled over 3 days plus 1 day of compulsory workplacement and 1 day of unsupervised directed study time. Your workplacement and unsupervised directed study are an integral part of your learning and assessment for the program. Classes are interactive and give you many opportunities to discuss, share ideas and practice new skills. You will participate in class learning activities such as analysing case studies and scenarios, role plays, group and pair work, online research and reading articles. The work and tasks you complete during the program will focus on the teaching and learning of young people. Some of the units will be clustered as part of your learning and assessment.

Due to COVID face to face classes are currently being delivered through remote online, interactive learning.

Your assessments will be on-going through the program.

Assessment may include:

  •     question and answer written tasks
  •     oral tasks
  •     group work
  •     projects
  •     online tasks
  •     workbased assessment through demonstration and observation

You can seek recognition through the RPL process for any competencies held and for any relevant qualification or experience. See following link for further  http://www.rmit.edu.au/students/enrolment/credit

Work integrated learning

RMIT is committed to providing you with an education that strongly links formal learning with professional or vocational practice. As a student enrolled in this RMIT program you will:

  • undertake and be assessed on structured activities that allow you to learn, apply and demonstrate your professional or vocational practice;
  • interact with industry and community when undertaking these activities;
  • complete these activities in real work contexts or situations;

and in addition:

  • these interactions and the work contexts provide distinctive sources of feedback to you to assist your learning.

You will participate in compulsory workplacement (minimum 100hrs) in a regulated educational organisation to gain on the job experience. You will be supported in organising your workplacement by the RMIT workplacement coordinator and relevant teachers. You will be required to complete relevant workplacement documentation e.g. Work Integrated Learning (WIL) agreements, schedules and Working with Children's Check (WWCC) documentation before you commence your workplacement. Your workplacement facilitator and relevant teachers will assist you with the documentation at the commencement of the program.
