The program develops your academic skills, knowledge and confidence, required to access and participate in higher-level qualifications, and enhances your further study prospects. The program is designed as a pathway for school leavers who did not attain a required skill level, those who wish to change career, or for those of you who have not studied for some years.
The objective of the Science stream is to prepare you for further study and to create pathways into the field of science. To support this, upon successful completion of the qualification, guaranteed pathways are available (see Articulation and Pathways).

Successful completion of this program provide guaranteed entry into the following RMIT programs:
Associate Degree in Applied Science
Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques
Diploma of Conservation and Land Management
** The Diploma of Nursing is planned to be removed as a pathway for this program for students commencing Sem 2 2023. For the Diploma of Nursing pathway, specific English language requirements apply. Please refer to the program page for further details.
NOTE: Students who complete the Science stream within Semester 1, 2023 or prior and wish to articulate into the Diploma of Nursing, please contact the Program Manager. From Semester 2, 2023 onward, students who wish to articulate into the Diploma of Nursing should study the Health stream."

RMIT was a member of the steering committee that developed and reviewed this nationally recognised qualification. It is owned by the Department of Education, Higher Education and Skills Group (HESG), Adult Community and Further Education (ACFE) Board and is maintained by the Curriculum Maintenance Manager (CMM) - General Studies and Further Education. The program develops the skills and knowledge required by specific learner groups to enhance their education prospects in Science related fields.
The program implementation and program delivery is informed by he Social Care and Health Industry Advisory Committee. These committees are made up of science industry representatives, and further study and community representatives.
There are no external accreditation bodies with this qualification.

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees. Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.
