Approach to learning and assessment

The RMIT Diploma of Community Development learning and assessment strategy is holistic in approach to meet your learning needs.

Learning and assessment will be delivered using a mixed mode method including:

  • Develop an individual learning plan that identifies areas for skills development to meet the program outcomes
  • Workshops to support competency delivery, and assessment processes
  • Projects directly related to workplace learning needs that meet the program and workplace requirements
  • Individual student mentoring, to support competency delivery, and assessment processes and
  • Student oral presentations and / or written assignments to assess the program

Assessment tasks will include project work, case studies and oral presentations to meet the program competency requirements.   You will work with facilitators, negotiate the most relevant workplace project(s) for your professional development, and develop case studies and examples of workplace practice to demonstrate competency.

The program will enable you to gain skills and knowledge that are directly applicable to their workplace and current work practices.  Peer learning and networking will be fostered throughout the program through the use of an online learning system.

Work integrated learning

RMIT University is committed to providing you with an education that strongly links formal learning with workplace experience. As a student enrolled in this RMIT University program you will be assessed on structured activities that allow you to learn, apply and demonstrate vocational competency.
If you are working, particularly in a job which is related to your studies you will also be learning while at work and may have the opportunity to be assessed in your workplace for some or all of your courses. Feedback from work supervisors and others in the workplace can be used as evidence of competency, and an RMIT University assessor can visit your workplace to observe your work practice.
