Approach to learning and assessment

This is a fully on-line program and in the design, the Business TAFE School has considered and addressed traditional barriers to the success of on-line learning including regular and proactive contact from the program teacher in between on-line workshops/activities.

Key features of the program include:

  • Pre-training review of existing skills and knowledge and the development of an individualised gap training plan
  • Program induction including familiarisation with the online environment, course content, timeframes and all assessment requirements
  • A range of work relevant learning activities to suit different learning styles and to allow for practice and application of skills and knowledge. Learning activities are designed to enable students to practise their skills and knowledge across a range of learning situations and in actual or simulated workplace environments
  • Interactive on-line workshops for delivery of key concepts
  • Workplace based assessment options including customisation to a specific workplace context if required
  • Online communication tools for interaction with both the teacher and other learners. These include Pebblepad, group email, blogs and discussion boards
  • Regular and proactive contact from the program teacher in between more structured learning activities
  • Ongoing evaluation and continuous improvement of the program

Work integrated learning

RMIT is committed to providing you with an education that strongly links formal learning with workplace experience.  As a student enrolled in this RMIT program you will be assessed on structured activities that allow you to learn, apply and demonstrate vocational competency.

If you are working, particularly in a job which is related to your studies you will also be learning while at work and may have the opportunity to be assessed in your workplace for some or all of your courses. Feedback from work supervisors and others in the workplace can be used as evidence of competency, and an RMIT assessor can visit your workplace to observe your work practice.
