Purpose of the Program
Australia is rapidly shifting from a manufacturing economy to a services economy, we are bringing in an increasing volume of our goods from overseas, overall demand for goods continues to increase and our exports are increasingly large volume and commodity based. Regardless of whether Australia is exporting or importing goods – careers in international business will be of increasing importance.
The development of the program structure and the choice of elective units appropriate to the international business sector were informed by a Program Advisory Committee (PAC) comprised of representatives of the International Business sector and RMIT educators.
Teachers maintain close contact with industry through various professional development activities and some are actively employed or operating their own business in the sector. Teachers regularly engage guest speakers for the program, and all assessments are designed to allow them to be applied to a real or simulated workplace scenario.
This program provides the managerial skills needed to succeed in international business. External accreditation and industry links
The development of the program structure and the choice of elective units appropriate to the International Business sector were informed by a Program Advisory Committee (PAC) comprised of representatives of the International Business industry and RMIT educators.
Teachers maintain close contact with industry through various professional development activities, and for sessional staff generally they maintain employment or operate their own businesses in a relevant sector. The Program Manager Timothy Wallis is a Director and Company Secretary of the Australian Chamber of International Trade and regularly engages with extensive networks in the International Business area.
Teachers regularly engage guest speakers for the program. All learners participate in classes where they are assisted to make connections between theoretical concepts and the workplace. In some cases this is their own workplace. Mentoring and coaching by the facilitator in order to assist learners to make this connection is a major design feature of this program.
