Approach to learning and assessment

The program is delivered and assessed over two semesters online using the CANVAS Learning Management System. Through a combination of readings from the set textbook, webinars, online discussion forums and working on individual and collaborative projects, students build a portfolio of evidence for each of the 10 units of the program.

The approach to learning and assessment for this program is through e-learning and includes the following:

  • Structured online learning activities
  • Live webinars where there is real time access to your teachers
  • Workplace-based project work

Assessment occurs throughout the program. Evidence of competency for each unit is assessed via short answer knowledge questions and a work place based project.  Each project is designed to give  learners the opportunity to practically apply the skills and knowledge required to demonstrate the work skill, with the exact nature of the project determined by the critical aspects of evidence for each unit, for example for TAEDES501A Design and develop learning strategies, learners develop two learning strategies at the qualification level and must implement one, while for TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools, learners develop assessment tools which they then trial with a colleague or student and review. Evidence can be collected online, in the workplace or in a simulated workplace.

Your facilitator will conduct weekly webinars in which you can raise questions or issues about your studies and assessment. You can also communicate via telephone, email or Skype.

If you have a long term medical condition or disability and/or other form of disadvantage it may be possible to negotiate variations to aspects of the learning or assessment methods.  You can contact the Program Coordinator or the Equitable Learning Service Unit (https://www.rmit.edu.au/students/support-and-facilities/student-support/equitable-learning-services) if you would like to find out more.

Work integrated learning

RMIT is committed to providing you with an education that strongly links formal learning with professional or vocational practice. As a student enrolled in this RMIT program you will:

  • undertake and be assessed on structured activities that allow you to learn, apply and demonstrate your professional or vocational practice;
  • interact with industry and community when undertaking these activities;
  • complete these activities in real work contexts or situations;

and in addition:

  • these interactions and the work contexts provide distinctive sources of feedback to you to assist your learning.

Any or all of these aspects of a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience may be simulated.

If you are working, particularly in a job which is related to your studies you will also be learning while at work and may have the opportunity to be assessed in your workplace for some or all of your courses. Feedback from work supervisors and others in the workplace can be used as evidence for assessment of competence, and an RMIT University assessor can visit your workplace to observe and assess your work practice and competence.

All units in this program have some sort of WIL activities. However, the designated WIL units are:

TADPDD501 - Maintain and enhance professional practice.

TAEDES502 - Design and develop learning resources

TAEDES503 - Design and develop e-learning resources
