Objectives of the program

This program provides an introduction to general business studies. The program is equivalent to the first year of any RMIT Business undergraduate degree and will facilitate articulation into the second year of undergraduate programs offered by RMIT College of Business.

You will be introduced to fundamental knowledge and concepts in business, such as accounting, marketing, macroeconomics, commercial law microeconomic theory and management. You will also develop technical skills in business computing and business statistics.

This program will give you an opportunity to solve real business problems through structured activities, such as laboratory workshops and projects. You will develop your knowledge and skills by attending lectures and tutorials, keeping reflective journals, taking in-class tests, writing laboratory reports, participating in class discussion and completing other learning activities.

Career opportunities for graduates exist in both public and private business sectors, small and large enterprises and across a wide range of industries. As a general business award and a pathway into the second year of undergraduate programs offered by RMIT, this program does not have external accreditation from any professional association or accrediting body.

No elective is available for students undertaking the Diploma of Commerce.

Articulation and pathways

Pathways refer to related programs for which you may be eligible once you have graduated from your current program.

Students who successfully complete the requirements for the Diploma of Commerce will be elligible for entry into the second year of any three year undergraduate Business degree.

Students in receipt of a packaged offer (Diploma of Commerce, any 3 year Bachelor of Business) with a minimum IELTS of 6.5 will be automatically admitted to the relevant Bachelor of Business degree and may be concurrently enrolled in both programs.

Entrance requirements

Successful completion of the STTB:SMA or STTB: SMK with an average of 6.0 for the 5th and 6th  semesters, and the provision of the Surat Keterangan Hasil Ujian Nasional (SKHUN) (Certificate of Graduation).

English language requirements

A minimum IELTS (Academic module) overall score of 5.5, with no band less than 5.0, or equivalent.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.
