Purpose of the Program

The  RMIT Foundation Studies program meets the requirements for Foundation Programs which have been registered on Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) for delivery in Australia to overseas students providing an academic preparation for seeking entry to first year undergraduate study or its equivalent. It develops a mix of discipline knowledge, academic English and study skills in a supportive, flexible and learner-centred environment.  In Foundation Studies you will undertake a range of learning activities and experiences aimed at developing your English language skills, stream specific knowledge as well as study skills which will prepare you for further study at university level. Much of this will involve face-to face delivery in the classroom and may include studio-based activities, laboratory and group work, as well as practical demonstrations. In some courses, excursions will be undertaken. Upon successful completion of the Foundation Studies program and achievement of relevant pre-requisites, English scores and grade point averages, you will be guaranteed admission into a diploma, associate degree or degree at RMIT.

Articulation and pathways

Pathways refer to higher education programs for which you may be eligible once you have successfully completed from your Foundation Studies program.

Your Foundation Studies program is specially designed to provide you with a pathway into RMIT higher education programs. It is very important that you talk to your Team Leader about the courses you should take so that you will be eligible to apply for admission to the degree or diploma of your choice and ensure you fulfil any specific entry requirements.

Guaranteed admission to an RMIT diploma, associate degree or degree requires satisfactory completion of the Foundation Studies program.  Some RMIT diplomas, associate degree and degrees may also require a minimum grade point average (GPA) or minimum scores in specified pre-requisite courses.   Information concerning entry requirements for associate degrees and degrees and pre-requisite course requirements can be found under “pathways’ on the RMIT Foundation Studies webpage.

The Grade Point Average (GPA) is a measure of your average results across all courses and is explained at https://www.rmit.edu.au/students/student-essentials/assessment-and-results/results/grade-point-average--gpa-
