Purpose of the Program

The Graduate Certificate of Tertiary Teaching and Learning (TT&L) is designed to improve your learning and teaching practice as a tertiary teacher and to equip you to teach effectively in the Higher Education sector. The program provides opportunities for you to explore issues in tertiary learning and teaching, course design, assessment and creative problem solving in the context of current and emerging professional practice. Underpinning the course is a commitment to student-centred learning. In particular, the program has been designed to assist you to understand what it means to provide students with a global passport, ensure flexible and useful learning opportunities for students, create stimulating and satisfying learning experiences for students, implement e-learning in an RMIT context, and provide effective supervision to higher degree research students.

The program has been designed to complement the RMIT Academic Plan and the Learning and Teaching Strategy by providing a platform for implementing the RMIT mission to “create and disseminate knowledge to meet the needs of industry and community and foster in students the skills and passion to contribute to and engage with the world.”

Articulation and pathways

Pathways refer to related programs for which you may be eligible once you have graduated from your current program.

Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate you may be eligible for entry into the Master of Education degree.

Entrance requirements

You are required to have a minimum three-year undergraduate degree or other equivalent experience.

If you have partially or wholly completed a similar program at another tertiary institution you will be individually considered for entry and exemptions.

International students must meet the following english language requirements.

One of the following:

  • IELTS – 7.0+ (no band less than 6.5)
  • TOEFL – Paper-Based = 580+ (TWE 4.5+)
  • TOEFL – Computer-Based = 237+ (TWE 4.5+)
  • REW – English for Academic Purposes Advanced 1 & 2

External accreditation and industry links

There are no professional bodies that recognise or accredit programs in University teaching.

This program is generally recognised as a higher education teaching qualification by other higher education institutions, where required for employment.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.
