Approach to learning and assessment

During your studies will experience a variety of teaching and learning approaches in the courses you undertake. The approaches will be appropriate to the learning outcomes and core capabilities they are designed to develop. The learning and assessment you will experience throughout your program will include:

  • Classroom learning including lectures, class discussion and group discussion. This style of learning is designed to maximise your understanding of the curriculum content and to develop appropriate skills. It is designed to provide an environment where you can ask questions and seek feedback as well as contribute to class discussion and apply theory to practice;
  • Case-based learning engages you in critical thinking and decision making about realistic problems in a business discipline;
  • Project-based learning engages you in project design, problem solving, decision making, investigative activities;
  • Experiential learning allows you to learn from doing through role play and simulation; and
    Hands on laboratory sessions develop your Supply Chain Project Management application skills.
    The objective is to encourage flexible and independent learning, to develop your ability to understand theory and concepts, and to apply them.

Assessment in the Graduate Certificate of Logistics Management is designed to give you the opportunity to demonstrate your capabilities. You will find that various forms of assessment will be used throughout the program since the assessment you receive will be appropriate to the objectives and student learning outcomes for each course.  Assessment in this program may include:

  • Formal examinations provide you with the opportunity to demonstrate your understanding and application of fundamental principles to either practical or theoretical issues;
    Assignments and projects may be completed individually or in teams.  They will provide you with opportunities to develop your abilities in communication, research and analysis, and problem solving;
  • In-class tests provide you with timely feedback on your understanding of the content of a course.  This will enable you to further develop your skills and capabilities during the semester;
    Formal presentations enable the development of verbal communication skills and organisational abilities; and
  • Case analysis enables you to develop analytical and problem solving skills.
    If you have a long term medical condition and/or disability it may be possible to negotiate to vary aspects of the learning or assessment methods. You can contact the program coordinator or the

Disability Liaison Unit if you would like to find out more.
If you have already developed areas of skill and knowledge included in this program (for example, through prior studies or work experience), you can apply for credit once you have enrolled in this program. The RMIT University website contains information about how to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) http://www.rmit.edu.au/ students/enrolment/credit/he
