Purpose of the Program

Analytics is an established quantitative field within both industry and higher education. With exponential growth in available data, the analytics discipline has emerged as a key field requiring skilled analysts. The Graduate Certificate in Analytics is designed to enable you to develop your critical knowledge of analytics and statistics, and your ability to apply this knowledge across a range of professions. The program will provide you with a foundation to develop your analytical capability further through your professional practice and/or further study.

    Articulation and pathways

    Pathways:

    After completing the Graduate Certificate in Analytics you are guaranteed entry into the Master of Analytics (MC242) and carry over all credits achieved in GC170.

    If you successfully complete 48cp of MC242, you may opt to exit the program with the following graduate certificate: GC170 Graduate Certificate in Analytics.

    Entrance requirements

    Program Entry Requirements:
    An Australian Bachelor degree (AQF 7) or equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution
    OR
    No formal qualification but a minimum of 5 years full time work experience in an industry setting

    International qualifications are assessed according to the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

    English language Requirements:

    External accreditation and industry links

    Graduates of the Graduate Certificate in Analytics program who have also completed a Bachelor of Mathematics or Bachelor of Statistics/Analytics are eligible to apply for membership of the Statistical Society of Australia, the American Statistical Association, the Australian Society for Operations Research and the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences.

    The objective of the Statistical Society of Australia is to further the study, application and good practice of statistical theory and methods in all branches of learning and enterprise. The primary objective of accreditation is to indicate to the non-statistical community that the holder has achieved an acceptable level of professional competence in the understanding and application of statistical methods and is bound by the Code of Conduct of the SSAI. The American Statistical Association is the world’s largest community of statisticians and supports excellence in the development, application and dissemination of statistical science through meetings, publications, membership services, education, accreditation and advocacy.

    The Australian Society For Operations Research serves the professional needs of OR analysts, managers, students and educators by publishing a National Bulletin and National and Chapter Newsletters. The society also serves as a focal point for operations researchers to communicate with each other and to reach out to other professional societies. The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences is the leading association for professionals in the fields of operations research, management science, and analytics.

    The Graduate Certificate in Analytics is formally linked to industry through its Industry Advisory Committee (IAC), and through various consulting and research projects undertaken by staff. Members of the IAC provide valuable input and are a major driver for change in the program, particularly with regard to industry trends and future graduate capabilities, the use of state-of-the-art software, the introduction of specialisations and, most importantly, support for the introduction of work integrated learning (WIL).

    Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

    Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.

    Library resources and services

    As a student enrolled in a program at RMIT University you can access the extensive services, facilities and study space provided by the Library. You can access books, journals and other course related materials such as DVDs, past exams, newspapers and e-books. Through our document delivery service you can also request items from any library in the world.

    Computers for study are available at every Library site, where you can access the Internet, myRMIT or Library e-resources. If you have a laptop you can access the RMIT University wireless network in the Library.

    Library staff can show you how to find information for your assignments or you can work through web-based tutorials or use our online Ask a Librarian service.

    The Library is continually expanding our electronic collections to make it easier for you to get the information you need when you need it. All RMIT University students have unlimited access to quality electronic resources such as, e-books, e-journals and newspapers.
