Purpose of the Program

The Graduate Certificate in Data Science program is designed for graduates of computing, science, engineering or health bachelors programs with or without industry experience who want to become data scientists. It will prepare you for a career in data science, an emerging area driving economic growth, public policy and corporate strategy through management of very large collections of data to derive insights that ultimately benefit society. Job titles for data scientists in this new field are very diverse, for example: analytics specialist, business intelligence analyst, business intelligence developer, data analyst, data architect, data engineer, data miner, data scientist, web analyst.

This program is delivered on-campus and requires in person attendance.

Articulation and pathways

Pathways:

After completing the Graduate Certificate in Data Science you are able to apply into the Master of Data Science (MC267) and carry over all credits achieved in GC173.

After completing the Graduate Certificate in Data Science, you are able to apply into the Master of Analytics (MC242) and carry over all credits achieved in GC173.

Program Entry Requirements:

An Australian Bachelor degree (AQF 7) or equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution

OR

No formal qualification but a minimum of 5 years Full Time Equivalent (FTE) work experience in any industry setting

External accreditation and industry links

Computer Science and Information Technology within the School of Science has substantial links with the ICT industry both within Australia and internationally. Employers and industry professionals are members of our Industry Advisory Committee and those and others with Data Science expertise have contributed to the initial development and ongoing improvement of the program. Their involvement ensures that the program remains relevant to your needs as a graduate and the needs of graduate employers. The committee meets quarterly and provides feedback on the currency of the program, the changing needs of industry and has input into the design of new programs. It also actively contributes to the School through participation in seminars, marketing events, industry awards and scholarships.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.

Resources available from the Library

The Computer Science and Information Technology disciplines within the School of Schoolhttp://www.rmit.edu.au/compsci also provides you with access to its specialised computer laboratories These laboratories provide access to a range of computer environments including a variety of database products under different operating systems.
