Approach to learning and assessment

Your learning will take place in a blended mode, both online and on campus. Your online learning will be facilitated via RMIT’s learning management system, Canvas, and via other software and systems provided by RMIT. Scheduled access to fabrication workshops, electronics laboratories, and sound studios will enable you to fulfill the creative experimentation and hands-on production aspects of your studies. Courses will use a variety of teaching approaches including seminars, studios, lectures and tutorials, and use methods such as collaborative group work, negotiated learning, peer review, presentations, exercises, workshops, and discussion. You can also expect to engage with case studies, solution-based learning, and reflective techniques.

You will learn how to constructively critique your own work and that of others. Peer review is integral to the learning environment and subsequently for professional practice within the creative industries. Assessment involves ‘learning by doing’ and will include a range of activities such as presentations, portfolios, reports, written reflection, research projects, peer or industry review. Project proposals will be directly related to industry-specific needs and may involve making contact with industry practitioners regarding contemporary issues.

Most of the assessment you undertake will be designed so that your lecturer and peers can provide you with ongoing feedback on strengths and areas for improvement in your learning. This approach will enable you to improve on your performance during the program, as well as continue to refine capabilities for your future professional practice and learning after graduation.

If you have a longterm medical condition, disability and/or another form of disadvantage it may be possible to negotiate to vary aspects of the learning or assessment methods. You can contact the program coordinator or the Equitable Learning Services (ELS) if you would like to find out more: https://www.rmit.edu.au/students/support-and-facilities/student-support/equitable-learning-services

If you have already developed areas of skill and knowledge included in this program (for example, through prior studies or work experience), you can apply for credit once you have enrolled in this program. There is information on the RMIT University website about how to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
