Purpose of the Program

The main objective of the Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Engineering program is to provide a pathway for graduate engineers and scientists, or those with an alternative acceptable qualification and significant experience in industry, to gain a qualification in the burgeoning specialist area of Sustainable Engineering.

In line with this objective, the program has been designed to assist you to:

  • apply your specialist knowledge, understanding and skills obtained in this program to analyse complex sustainable energy systems and technologies.
  • find innovative solutions from an array of possibilities through a systematic problem-solving approach considering the economic, sociopolitical, policy and environmental context affecting sustainable energy solutions.
  • communicate with a wide range of key stakeholders in a professional and effective manner.
  • lead, build and work with teams with trust and respect.

The program requires in-person attendance in the City Campus, but also takes advantage of the capabilities of Canvas, the online learning management system that is available to all students and provides scope for collaboration and remote access.

Articulation and pathways

Graduates of the Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Engineering are guaranteed entry into the MC229 Master of Engineering (Sustainable Energy) program and will receive 48 credit points.

Entrance requirements

Program Entry Requirements

Successful completion of an Australian Bachelor degree (or international equivalent) in one of the following fields: Engineering, Science, Information Technology, Physics and Chemistry

OR

Applicants without any relevant prior qualification will be considered if they have at least 10 years of relevant industry experience.

Prior studies in the chemistry of energy (thermo-fluid science) is desirable but not required.

International qualifications are assessed for equivalence with the above Australian Qualifications Framework qualifications.

English Language Requirements

Local applicants with international qualifications: If your international Bachelor degree was not taught in English you must undertake an IELTS test and achieve a score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0, or equivalent.

Applicants who are applying for postgraduate coursework programs may demonstrate they meet English language proficiency requirements with evidence of two years professional work experience in an occupation requiring English language proficiency.

This program is not accredited by any professional body. This program does not qualify graduates for any level of membership or registration for practice.

Industry Links 

This engineering program has strong links with industry through its Industry Advisory Committee (IAC) and through research and teaching collaborations. Many program teaching staff are from local industry or have extensive previous industry experience and well-developed contact networks, and many are currently engaged in industry-funded research projects. These attributes, when integrated into teaching and courseware development, ensure that your learning experience is industry-relevant.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.
