Approach to learning and assessment

In this program you will experience a range of teaching and learning approaches, including lectures, seminars, industry based presentations, workshops, case studies, problem–based learning, reflective techniques, presentations, group-based learning, discussions, negotiated learning, on-site visits, and independent research.

The courses are built around specific issues and problems across the fields of arts management. The overall approach to assessment in the program combines aspects of formative and summative assessment using research projects, portfolio production, essays, and presentations. In each course you will be provided with a range of options for assessment tasks ranging from short issues response papers through to focussed research investigations. The papers, research projects and presentations are directly related to industry specific issues and concerns.

You will be responsible for contributing to the critique of your own work and that of others. Peer review is integral to the learning environment and professional practice within the arts industries.

As part of the review process you will be involved in giving feedback, using both formal and informal methods. Ongoing feedback from lecturers regarding assessment results will be a further part of the process. Lecturer feedback will be used as a way of further developing your capabilities. You will use self-assessment to demonstrate your understanding of the content and application.

Work integrated learning

This program does not have a designated work integrated learning course. However, RMIT University is committed to providing you with an education that strongly links formal learning with professional or vocational practice. As a student enrolled in this RMIT University program you will:

• undertake and be assessed on structured activities that allow you to learn, apply and demonstrate your professional or vocational practice;
• interact with industry and community when undertaking these activities;
• complete these activities in real work contexts or situations.

These interactions and the work contexts provide distinctive sources of feedback to you to assist your learning. Any or all of these aspects of a WIL experience may be simulated in a workplace environment.

When available, some optional courses also offer WIL opportunities.
