Approach to learning and assessment

The learning experiences that you will encounter in this program include lectures, laboratory classes, group work, tutorials, and self-directed learning.  These activities will provide a varied learning environment which will be appropriate for the particular capabilities that are addressed in the program. Learning materials will include specialised textbooks, scientific journal articles, and lecture/laboratory notes. Some of this material can be accessed via the RMIT online system, myRMIT (www.rmit.edu.au/myrmit).

You will be assessed using a variety of methods.  Assessment tasks may include written assignments, laboratory reports, oral presentations, project portfolio, and formal exams.  The method of assessment will be appropriate for specific capabilities of the program. The evidence of capability achievement will be demonstrated by your performance in the assessment tasks.

If you have a long-term medical condition, disability and/or other form of disadvantage, it may be possible to negotiate to vary aspects of the learning or assessment methods.  Please contact the Equitable Learning Service https://www.rmit.edu.au/students/support-and-facilities/student-support/equitable-learning-services to discuss any adjustments you may require. Please also read the full list of inherent requirements.

If you have already developed areas of skill and knowledge included in this program (for example, through prior studies or work experience), you can apply for credit once you have enrolled in this program. There is information on the RMIT University website about how to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): www.rmit.edu.au/students/enrolment/credit/he

Work integrated learning

RMIT is committed to providing you with an education that strongly links formal learning with workplace experience.  As a student enrolled in this RMIT program you will:

  • undertake and be assessed on structured activities that allow you to learn, apply and demonstrate your professional or vocational practice
  • interact with industry and community when undertaking these activities
  • complete these activities in real or simulated work contexts or situations

Any or all of these aspects of a WIL experience may be in a simulated workplace environment.

In MEDS2154 Advanced Laboratory Medicineyou will work under the guidance of a supervisor, in this capstone WIL-based course. You will present your findings in a seminar gaining feedback from experienced researchers.
