The Graduate Diploma in Statistics and Operations Research program aims to provide opportunities to further your understanding in the modelling of physical, biological and economic phenomena so that you will be able to contribute to development in industry and commerce.
The program furthers your knowledge of statistical and operations research methodologies and provides a theoretical foundation combined with practical applications of current techniques employed by practising engineers, scientists and other professionals in industry, research, consulting, teaching and business. You will also develop your practical skills in Data Wrangling (MATH2349) which includes a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience in which your knowledge and skills are applied and assessed in a simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.

Graduates of the Graduate Diploma in Statistics and Operations Research program may be eligible to become a member of the Institute of Analytics Professional Australia, the Statistical Society of Australia, the American Statistical Association, the Australian Society For Operations Research and the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences.
The Institute of Analytics Professionals of Australia (IAPA) is the professional organisation for the analytics industry in Australia, incorporating business analytics and data mining across multiple disciplines and sectors. The objective of the Statistical Society of Australia (SSAI) is to further the study, application and good practice of statistical theory and methods in all branches of learning and enterprise. The primary objective of accreditation is to indicate to the non-statistical community that the holder has achieved an acceptable level of professional competence in the understanding and application of statistical methods and is bound by the Code of Conduct of the SSAI . The American Statistical Association is the world’s largest community of statisticians and supports excellence in the development, application and dissemination of statistical science through meetings, publications, membership services, education, accreditation and advocacy.
The Australian Society For Operations Research serves the professional needs of Operation Research (OR) analysts, managers, students and educators by publishing a National Bulletin and National and Chapter Newsletters. The society also serves as a focal point for operations researchers to communicate with each other and to reach out to other professional societies. The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences is the leading association for professionals in the fields of operations research, management science, and analytics.
We are formally linked to industry through our Industry Advisory Committee (IAC) and through various consulting and research projects undertaken by staff. Members of the IAC provide valuable input and are a major driver for change in the program, particularly with regard to industry trends and future graduate capabilities, the use of state-of-the-art software and the introduction of specialisations.

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees. Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.
