Purpose of the Program

The Graduate Diploma in Project Management (Post Disaster Project Management) provides a post graduate level qualification that will build upon and develop project management expertise and knowledge for people pursuing a career as a project manager in the field of post disaster project management.  This program emphasises the application of theoretical knowledge to practice and will build your capability to effectively respond to current and emerging issues, trends, and to stakeholder and organisational needs through your developed specialised practice.

In conjunction with the Master of Project Management (Post Disaster Project Management), this program addresses the industry need for specialised project management expertise relating to project conceptualisation, scoping, design, development, implementation and evaluation in the post disaster context. The courses delivered within the program will build your knowledge of the specialised domains within project management, including project scoping, development and risk management. You will develop the analytical and technical skills required to utilise theoretical knowledge and published data to inform your decision making as project manager.

The program replicates industry and professional practice contexts and equips you to work in multi-disciplinary teams involved in the post disaster management process.  Upon graduation you will be able to work as a project management professional and apply specialised knowledge acquired in the program with a focus on the field of post disaster project management. You will be able to perform a broad range of roles that project management entails, ranging from the conceptualisation and planning stages, through to project completion and evaluation. You will also be able to interpret complex issues, utilise your high level skills and strategy to address the needs of diverse stakeholders operating within the post disaster project management field, and confidently provide your project management expertise to realise project objectives and address stakeholder expectations and needs. 

The RMIT Graduate Diploma in Project Management (Post Disaster Project Management) is designed to enable you to work as a highly skilled project manager who has the potential and knowledge to succeed in various organisations which operate in this specialised field. The program has a strong emphasis on leadership and management including project scoping, scheduling, client relationships, community engagement and research. A blend of lectures and seminars with industry case studies and work relevant projects allows you to combine theory and practice in a real work environment. The program develops both your generic and discipline specific capabilities through the expansion of knowledge and ideas that align with the current and emerging expectations of employers and industry. 

Successful completion of this program provides a pathway to further learning into the Master of Project Management. Upon successful completion of this program you may also be eligible to undertake further studies in related programs at RMIT University.

Articulation and pathways

If you have already developed areas of skill and knowledge included in this program (for example, through prior studies or work experience), you can apply for credit once you have enrolled in this program.

Students who successfully complete this program may apply to continue their studies in MC210 Master of Project Management and will receive 96 credit points of exemption (equivalent to 1 year full-time study). 

The program is available as an exit award of MC210 Master of Project Management if you have successfully completed the 96 credit points listed in this structure.

Upon successful completion of this program you may be eligible to undertake further studies in related Masters programs at RMIT University subject to each program’s entry requirements.

Entrance requirements

Successfully completed an Australian Bachelor degree (or equivalent overseas qualification, or a minimum of 5 years professional work experience in a related industry. Applicants with professional experience at a senior level that is less than 5 years may also be considered.

To have your professional experience considered you must include in your application a CV and a statement that details your experience.

English language requirements

A minimum of IELTS (Academic module) overall score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0, or equivalent. For equivalents to English entry requirements, see the English requirements web page.

External accreditation and industry links

This program is accredit ed by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Project Management Institute (PMI). The accreditation provides global recognition for the Graduate Diploma of Project Management. Students are eligible to enrol in the RICS and PMI as a student member and then progress through to full member upon graduation.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.
