The program offers you various models of study while you engage in communication research and professional practice. One of the program's strengths is the range and experience of students which enriches the learning and teaching aspects. This mix of students provides an opportunity not only to learn from lecturers and industry specialists, but also to share different industry, global and professional perspectives with your peers. To do so, you will be engaged in group activities, in-class discussion and case studies. You will also participate in a variety of face-to-face and online learning and teaching approaches which may include lectures, tutorials, workshops, problem-based learning and presentations. You will have the opportunity to participate in RMIT sponsored, international study tours.
Assessment will include a range of activities such as projects, research assignments, reports, portfolio production, essays, presentations, and peer or industry review. Projects, reports and presentations will be directly related to industry specific needs and may involve making contact with industry practitioners regarding contemporary issues.
Most of the assessment you undertake will be designed so that your lecturer and peers can provide you with feedback on strengths and areas for improvement in your practice. This approach will enable you to improve on your performance during the course and in subsequent courses, as well as continue to refine capabilities for your future professional practice and learning after graduation.

RMIT University is committed to providing you with an education that strongly links formal learning with workplace experience. As a student enrolled in this RMIT University program you will:
- undertake and be assessed on structured activities that allow you to learn, apply and demonstrate your professional or vocational practice;
- interact with industry and community when undertaking this activity;
- complete an activity in a real work context or situation that may include teamwork with other students from different disciplines; and in addition:
- underpin your learning with feedback from interactions and contexts distinctive to workplace experiences
In this program, you will be doing specific courses that focus on work integrated learning (WIL). You will be assessed on professional work in a workplace setting and receive feedback from those involved in your industry. Any or all of these aspects of a WIL experience may be in a simulated workplace learning environment.
The WIL nominated course for this program is:
- COMM2666 Strategic Communication Management (24cp)
In this course you will develop a strategic communication plan in collaboration with an industry partner of your choice. This experience will allow you to link the theories that support strategic planning with the practical communication needs of your organisation.
In this course you may have the option to undertake an internship.
Internship Information
An agreement including schedule and relevant insurance documentation is required to be completed before commencing each internship (local and international). International internships must be registered and processed through RMIT Global Experience. In the case where an internship ends early, please refer to the Work Integrated Learning Procedure.
