Objectives of the program

The objectives of the program are to provide you with the capability to strategically review, plan and manage a logistics supply chain system with specific reference to financial, operational, control, integrated management criteria and its strategy throughout the programmed life cycle.

There is a significant growth in the manufacturing and distribution sectors in South East Asia (and Asia in general), especially in China, India and Thailand, where manufacturing and logistics industries are booming.  This growth has increased the demand for integrated logistics professionals with a more advanced level such as this program.

You can be part of this exciting career.  Significant advancement of information and communication systems in recent years has changed the world towards globalization of economy.  The design and operation of logistics systems require substantial planning and integration of services and support.  Due to the complexity and multi-disciplinary nature, the knowledge and expertise required to implement an efficient and effective logistics system should not be underestimated.  You will learn a complete range of logistics knowledge and skills covering areas such as the process from supplier to consumer, Third Party Logistic (3PL), distribution demands, reverse logistics, quality control, performance management, and total cost of ownership inventory management.  You will participate in syndicate groups that allow you to exploit your enthusiasm and dedication through industry case studies and presentations.

A bachelor degree or an equivalent bachelor degree in any discipline in engineering, science or business discipline. Advanced standing may be given on the basis of significant industry experience and/or relevant postgraduate studies.

External accreditation and industry links

The award is recognised by the Society of Logistics Engineering (SOLE).

There is no formal external accreditation available for Master of Engineering (Integrated Logistics Management) by coursework program.  However, to ensure the program meets the highest possible standards in postgraduate engineering education and that it satisfies the requirements of key external stakeholders, ongoing advice is provided by the Manufacturing and Materials Program Advisory Committee of the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering.  The Program Advisory Committee has representation from manufacturing, automation systems, logistics and engineering companies and research centres.

In Australia, Engineers Australia is the national authority representing engineers in Australia.  Engineers Australia will recognise the achievements of members who satisfy the relevant leadership and management competency standards in the form of a new post-nominal Engineering Executive (EngExec).  The MEng(ILM) program combines current logistic engineering and supply chain design with a practical focus.  You will be working in syndicate groups exploring the relationship of theory to experience and current industry practices.  The work-integrated learning approach adopted by this program enables you to acquire elements of the competencies required by Engineers Australia.  Graduates from this program are well placed to be considered for the Engineering Executive status.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.

Library resources and services
