The increasing number of environmental issues needs suitably qualified people to help resolve them. Solving these problems requires professionals who can provide ethical, high-level specialist advice to industry, governments and communities. The environmental industry now requires graduates who:
- Are knowledgeable about the science underpinning the data pointing to environmental changes,
- Can interpret the data being produced,
- Keep abreast of the current and emerging technologies being used to prevent or mitigate environmental problems,
- Are capable of designing and conducting research projects,
- Can communicate well with a wide range of audiences
- Can function with a high level of autonomy.
The Master of Environmental Science and Technology has been designed to provide you with these skills, giving you a competitive edge when seeking employment as an environmental professional. You will have a capstone experience which pulls all these requirements together in your research project.
Capstone courses for this program include either ENVI1233 Environmental Science Project or BIOL2485 Research Project A (Planning) and BIOL2328 Research Project B (Implementation)

If you have a cognate undergraduate degree, eg a Bachelor in Environmental Science, you may be eligible for up to 48 credit points based on your prior learning. You will need to discuss credit arrangements with your program manager.
If you have successfully completed one of the following qualifications majoring in Environmental Science, you will be eligible for advanced standing as follows:

You are able to exit the Master of Environmental Science and Technology after completing two Semesters (96cp) with a Graduate Diploma in Environmental Science and Technology (GD181). Note that the exemptions/advanced standing mentioned above cannot be used to exit with a Graduate Diploma.
Outstanding graduates from this program may be able to enter a PhD, subject to meeting the general admission criteria.
You may be eligible for credit into other RMIT University programs upon successfully completing this program. Please check with admissions officer of your program of choice.

Program Entry Requirements
In order to qualify for entry you need to have completed a Bachelor, or Master of coursework degree in Science or Engineering with a GPA greater than 2 out of 4.
International qualifications are assessed for comparability to Australian qualifications, according to the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
English Language Requirements
A minimum IELTS (Academic module) overall score of 6.5, with no band below 6.0; or equivalent. For equivalents to English entry requirements, see the English equivalents web page.

Graduates are eligible to apply to become members of the Environment Institute of Australia & New Zealand (EIANZ) which provides access to a wide professional network, workshops, seminars, conferences and publications.
Industry links are provided through the engagement of industry representatives in course delivery and in the development of project work.

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees. Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.
