Purpose of the Program

The Master of Information Management delivers an accredited entry-level professional qualification which prepares you with a professional qualification in information management and work for library, information, records and knowledge industries. A rapidly changing work environment requires graduates who are critical, creative, resilient and able to design solutions for information management problems and situations for a diverse range of organisations. This program provides you with knowledge and skills in capturing, managing, preserving, storing and delivering the right information to the right people at the right time.

Over the duration of the program you will experience a range of learning experiences including lectures, tutorials, workshops and work integrated learning. The application of theory-based learning to discipline-based professional work is learned through projects, real world case studies, guest speakers, and seminars.

A capstone experience will be provided in LIBR1016 The Professional Experience, which will give you the opportunity to critically reflect on this program’s curriculum. The course promotes the integration and synthesis of a range of knowledge and skills gained in the program and the application of these in discipline related real-world scenarios.

The core research course of this program is BUSM4448 Business Research Design. This course is designed to develop your knowledge of research principles and methods and how to apply them within the contemporary business environment. You will have the opportunity to conduct a research project/proposal and further develop your skills in research methodology.

This program prepares you for work in management level positions in the library, records, archives and information management sectors. These include librarian positions in public, tertiary special, government and school libraries, and management positions in records, archives, documents and knowledge management areas.

The program is delivered wholly on-campus or online or mixed mode.
