The program is designed to be a flexible program of study underpinned by an online student learning management platform that can be accessed anywhere, anytime throughout the semester. The MBA can be undertaken part-time or full-time. There will be opportunities for intensive learning, and students have the opportunity to undertake an international study tour. Lecturers will utilise a range of teaching and learning methodologies. The pedagogical approach is teacher-centred and student-centred which is well suited to the learning styles of recent graduates (see Joyce, B., M. Weil & E. Calhoun [2004] Models of Teaching, 7th ed., Boston: Allyn & Bacon). Particular attention will be paid to presenting content in ways that expose you to the world of work, particularly content that covers the principles and practices related to the management and organization of work and workplaces. Solving business problems with a business design thinking problem-solving approach is incorporated throughout the program.
A variety of methodologies will be used, including the formal dissemination of content, audio-visual presentations, presentations by industry professionals, simulations and other complimentary approaches, which provide opportunities for you to link the courses' content and skill development requirements with the management and organisation of work and workplaces.
Through issue-based seminars, case study analyses, simulations, student presentations, student-based topic investigations, and class discussions, you will gain an understanding of the nature of the business constructs as they impact on the regulatory environment, business operations, organisational processes, and performance.
Problem-based learning: In the Master of Business Administration, you may work in a team or individually to conduct research, solve problems, analyse and respond to case studies, prepare or respond to briefs, write original research or case study reports, or participate in managing a company in a computer-based business simulation. This technique is designed to simulate the experiences you will encounter working in business.
Flexible delivery: The program incorporates extensive use of online resources with links to core activities, authentic learning content and applies to real-world contexts, enabling you to engage in practical and applied learning and your learning journey and submit assessments conveniently.
Assignments and projects: These may be either research or problem based, and may be undertaken in teams or individually. They will provide you with experience at undertaking research and writing effectively to present your findings and recommendations to a range of audiences.
The assessment philosophy utilises a range of appropriate measures linked to the program and course outcomes. Assessment tasks include: business plan/reports, academic essays, in-class and online presentations, blogs, group reports, examinations and computer simulations.
A critical feature of all assessment tasks is the requirement to link rigorous academic literature with your work experience. Reflective practice is encouraged to apply new knowledge and insights towards effective and professional business practices.
Depending on courses selected, your progress is assessed by a combination of group and individual assignments and examination. Over the duration of your program you will experience a variety of teaching and learning approaches. The approaches used in each course will be appropriate to the learning outcomes and core capabilities they are designed to develop.
The assessment you must complete is designed to provide you with opportunities to demonstrate the extent to which you have achieved specific learning outcomes in a given area. Methods of assessment will also vary with the learning outcomes of the relevant course that may include case studies, research projects and reports.

The Master of Business Administration program is committed to providing you with an education that strongly links formal learning with professional practice. The courses listed below will provide you with opportunities to apply your academic skills to a work-based context where you will:
- be involved in authentic engagement with partner organisations that may be in the form of industrypartnered projects, simulations or placements;
- undertake and be assessed on structured activities that allow you to learn, apply and demonstrate your professional practice;
- interact with industry and community when undertaking these activities;
- complete these activities in real work contexts or situations; and
- be provided with distinctive sources of feedback to assist your learning.
The Master of Business Administration includes several courses that are ‘work integrated learning’ (WIL) courses. In these WIL courses, you will engage in activities that integrate theoretical learning with practical application inprofessional contexts and will engage you in meaningful and consequential learning activities. These courses involve you in interacting with organisations (industry, government and community) through discipline relevant projects and work placements. Many courses in the Master of Business Administration use guest lecturers from industry, government or the community and activities relating to industry as part of the learning experience. Any or all of these aspects of a ‘Work Integrated Learning’ (WIL) experience may be in a simulated workplace environment.
Work integrated learning (WIL) is embedded in two courses in year one of the program:
- BUSM4535 Design Thinking for Business (12 credit points)
- BUSM2412 Marketing for Managers (12 credit points)
The designated Work Integrated Learning (WIL) course in this program is:
- BUSM4164 Business Consulting (12 credit points)
Other courses in the program have aspects of industry partnered learning such as guest speakers, case studies, simulations, serious games, and thought leaders

Combination 1: Complete One (1) MBA Major and 24 credit points of University Electives; or Combination 2: Complete Two (2) MBA Minors and 24 credit points of University Electives; or Combination 3: Complete One (1) MBA Minor and 48 credit points of MBA Option Courses and 24 credit points of University Electives; or Combination 4: Complete 96 credit points in MBA Option Courses and 24 credit points of University Electives. Program transition plan
PROGRAM CHANGES FROM SEMESTER 1, 2024
All current students will be transitioned to the new program structure, and previously completed courses, including credit transfer and RPL, will be recognised in the new program structure. This change will not impact the courses you have completed thus far, nor will it extend the duration of your program.
If you successfully complete all the requirements of the current program structure by the end of Semester 3 2023, the changes do not apply to you.
What is changing?
The MC199 Master of Business Administration is introducing two new majors, and updating your minor options, and introducing the opportunity to take internships and research courses. The updated majors and minors have been listed below:

Note, the courses in the updated majors, minors, internship and research options may be referred to as MBA Option Courses.
Name changes:
- The Minor: Technology and Innovation has been renamed Minor: Digital Transformation.
- The course BUSM4158 Corporate Governance and Regulation has been renamed Corporate Governance and Responsible Leadership.
Name changes:
- The Minor: Technology and Innovation has been renamed Minor: Digital Transformation.
- The course BUSM4158 Corporate Governance and Regulation has been renamed Corporate Governance and Responsible Leadership.
Changes to courses:
- The course BUSM4538 Management of Technology and Innovation is no longer a core course. If you have completed this course, it will be considered part of the Major / Minor: Digital Transformation or an MBA Option Course.
- The course BUSM2479 Digital Entrepreneurship has been replaced by BUSM4538 Management of Technology and Innovation in the Minor: Digital Transformation. If you have completed BUSM2478 Digital Entrepreneurship prior to Semester 1 2024 it will be considered an MBA Option Course.
- The course ECON1556 Business Data Analytics is no longer a core course. If you have completed ECON1556 Business Data Analytics prior to Semester 1 2024, it will be considered as part of your MBA Option Courses.
Please note, courses completed under previous transition arrangements will be considered MBA Option Courses.

PROGRAM CHANGES FROM TRIMESTER 2 2022
The four (4) Business Enabling courses listed below that form Stage A / Semester 1, Year 1 of your current program structure will be removed from the program from Trimester 2, 2022.
- BUSM4487 Management 1 - Managing People
- BUSM4485 Business and Government in the Global Context
- ISYS3354 Global Business and Social Technology: A Case Study Approach
- ACCT2146 Accounting for Management Decisions
The above (four) 4 Stage A courses will be replaced with four (4) Business and Law courses.
If you have received exemptions for the four (4) Business Enabling courses, prior to Trimester 2 2022:
The courses will be recognised as part of your program, and no further action is required. You may continue your program enrolment as planned.
PROGRAM CHANGES FROM SEMESTER 2, 2020
Commencing from Semester 2, 2020, the Concentration courses have been amended to become Minors, comprising of four courses for each minor.
This move to Minors means that students who complete all four courses under a specific minor will be able to have this reflected on their final transcript.
We have also added the new option to complete any four postgraduate electives within the business and law disciplines as an alternative, this includes a 12 or 24 credit point business internship or study tour. Whilst students have flexibility to select any course from the different minors, in order to have a minor reflected on your transcript, you must complete all 4 courses listed in that minor (no exceptions).
If you already completed any courses from the pre-existing Concentration courses in Semester 1, 2020, these will be incorporated as part of your program, either as part of the Optional Electives, OR you may wish to complete the remainder of the courses comprising of the Minor that your completed course belongs to.

If you HAVE completed BUSM4532 Business Operations Management prior to Semester 1 2020, BUSM4532 Business Operations Management will be counted as one of your four electives.
BUSM4161 Managerial Finance
If you HAVE completed BUSM4161 Managerial Finance prior to Semester 1 2020, BUSM4161 Managerial Finance will be counted as one of your four electives.
BUSM4450 Business Research Design
If you HAVE completed BUSM4450 Business Research Design prior to Semester 1 2020, you are NOT required to take ECON1556 Business Data Analytics as a core course.
