Program Learning Outcomes Statement

The Master of Business Information Technology allows you to develop both generic business and specific business information systems capabilities through experiential learning to meet current and future expectations of employers. By applying real and relevant knowledge, the program is aimed at developing you as a highly skilled, “well-rounded” ICT professional. Upon the successful completion of the Master of Business Information Technology program, you will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate a broad, critical and practical understanding of contemporary issues and practice in business.
  2. Create successful business solutions drawing on technical and leadership capabilities, effective communication skills, systems approaches, innovative professional practice, and strategic and organisational skills.
  3. Undertake research on information technology applications in various organisational environments and through various theoretical perspectives.
  4. Analyse, design, develop, implement and manage robust single, multi-user and distributed user-friendly business information systems solutions using a range of tools and techniques, across a range of business contexts and processes to meet various stakeholder requirements within a global context.
  5. Critically analyse and synthesise creative and effective solutions to a range of problem/opportunity situations that add value to the business and its stakeholders.
  6. Develop secure, flexible, information and communication architectures that support the changing needs of the business.
  7. Manage the total management process associated with the development and enhancement of information systems with a critical appreciation of the relationship between systems development, and the management of time, cost, quality, and change management, within the organisational contexts of governance, cultural and ethical issues.
  8. Frame judgements and work practice within professional, legal and ethical frameworks.
  9. Engage with others in culturally diverse and technically complex situations. The cluster of interpersonal skills also recognises that sustainable development in global organisations requires the development of life-long learning skills and effective project team membership.
  10. Appropriately use tools and/or techniques for the situation at hand.
  11. Recognise the uncertainty of business decision-making due to the dynamic, global context businesses operate in.
  12. Align strategic business objectives with the development and governance of business information systems in a global context.
  13. Apply research principles and methods to design innovative options and solutions for, and make reasoned judgements about, problems and issues in contemporary business practice.
