Top of pagePurpose of the Program
The Master of Property has been designed for you to develop specialised theoretical knowledge and technical skills in property and will enable you to meet the needs of this increasingly dynamic, diverse and complex sector. This program emphasises the theoretical knowledge and practical skills and expertise required to work effectively as a property professional and meet the industry need for high level expertise, and management.
The courses in this program have been designed to enable you to critically engage with contemporary property theory and apply your developed knowledge and skills to creatively address industry problems and imperatives, and to realise business opportunities across the corporate and residential sectors. Courses have been designed to developed a breadth of skills and knowledge, including within the domains of property acquisition, property management, property development, property feasibility and financing.
Through your learning in this program you will critically evaluate and apply key property concepts, processes and practices to assess and provide expert advice on property development projects. Your capability to analyse and interpret current and emerging trends and market forces within the property industry will also inform your expert judgement and decision making. You will develop a breadth of specialised skills and knowledge which includes investment valuation techniques, property feasibility analysis, property data analysis, property acquisition, property development, property management and financing. The program is also designed to enable you to engage in industry focused research and to utilise your research skills to critically evaluate the property market.
A capstone experience is offered through either an individually negotiated professional practice project or a minor thesis in which you will integrate and synthesise your knowledge, connect theory to practice, and demonstrate your holistic achievement of the program learning outcomes.
Upon successful completion of this program you will have developed the specialised skills and knowledge to enable you to work in a range of high level roles as a property specialist including in acquisition, property asset management, portfolio funds management, property analyst and property developer.
As a graduate of this program, you will be equipped with a sound knowledge of property as an asset class within local and global contexts and be able to independently conduct research, and analyse current and emerging industry trends, to ensure expert individual and collaborative decision making. You will be equipped to apply your team work and management skills to formulate industry solutions, and provide informed evidenced based decision making in property. As a property professional you be will be a strategic thinker, responsive to future industry directions, and the needs of property stakeholders.
Successful completion of this program provides a pathway to a PhD.

If you have already developed areas of skill and knowledge included in this program (for example, through prior studies or work experience), you can apply for credit once you have enrolled in this program.
The Graduate Certificate in Property (GC051) and Graduate Diploma in Property (GD090) are available as exit awards of this program, if you have successfully completed the required credit points listed in this structure. If you wish to exit early with the Graduate Certificate you must have completed all 48 credit points or have been granted credit for previous study at an equivalent level (AQF 8). If you wish to exit early with the Graduate Diploma you must have completed all 96 credit points or have been granted credit for previous study at an equivalent level (AQF 8).
Upon successful completion this program, you may be eligible to undertake further studies in related programs at RMIT University, including Postgraduate Research programs, subject to each program’s entry requirements.

You must have successfuly completed an Australian Bachelor degree (or equivalent overseas qualification), or a minimum of 8 years professional work experience in a related industry. Applicants with professional experience at a senior level that is less than 8 years may also be considered.
To have your professional experience considered you must submit with your application a CV and a personal statement detailing your experience.
English language requirement
A minimum of IELTS (Academic module) overall score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0, or equivalent. For equivalents to English entry requirements, see the English requirements web page.

This program is accredited by the Australian Property Institute (API) (www.propertyinstitute.com.au)
The program meets the education requirements for CPV where API approved Valuation courses are taken. To be eligible to apply to the Australian Property Institute (API) for registration as a certified practising valuer, (CPV) you must hold a relevant undergraduate degree and complete the following 4 elective courses within the Master of Property:
- OMGT2070 Valuation for Rural Property
- OMGY2069 Valuations for Statutory Purposes
- ENVI1134 Statutory Plan and Environment
- OMGT1177 Valuation Practice
This program is also accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) (https://www.rics.org/au/). This provides global recognition of the Master of Property and allows students to enrol in the RICS Institute as a student member and then progress to full membership.

The School of PCPM has substantial links with the Property and Business industry both within Australia and internationally. Employers and industry professionals are members of our Industry Advisory Board contribute to both the initial development and ongoing improvement of this program.
Their involvement ensures that the program remains relevant to your needs as a graduate and the needs of graduate employers. Many of the teaching staff within the program are practicing (or have been) industry professionals with extensive industry experience and contact networks.

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees. Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.
