Purpose of the Program

This program has been designed for you to build specialist knowledge in both the theoretical and technical aspects of contemporary production in animation, games and interactivity.

In this studio-based program, you will engage with concepts and techniques of professional productions in the context of projects underpinned by contemporary developments in animation, games and interactivity. While acquiring skills in animation, game and interactive production, you will develop a directorial vision of narrative, visual and interactive media through contemporary studio forms and devices, exploring and innovating within emerging global trends.

The suite of skills and experiences will underpin and be interrogated through practice-led research projects where you will critically assess an increasingly diverse and complex view of global design and media production. A capstone research project, based on an individually negotiated brief, will enable you to synthesise and integrate your knowledge and inform practice with theory. You will demonstrate your achievement of the program learning outcomes.

On completion of the program, you will have specialised knowledge and skills for professional practice in the animation, games and ineractive media industries. You will be able to apply directorial vision and communication skills, to realise sophisticated solutions in motion and interaction design that are innovative, contemporary and engaging. You will be able to interpret issues, confidently lead others and provide insights that extend the theoretical and contextual understanding of animation, games and interactivity, its audiences and media cultures. You will be experienced in project planning, collaborative practice, team-based production and management.

In preparation for emergent roles in creative industries and leadership careers in production for animation, games and interactive mediums, your knowledge and skills will enable you to confidently communicate with allied professionals, such as writers, producers, designers and programmers.

You will be connected to an active and influential network of practitioners and have the opportunity to form collaborative partnerships with the potential to extend beyond the program itself. You will be encouraged to develop skills in life long learning, negotiating the often-complex web of professional relations in contemporary animated, games and interactive media productions.
