Purpose of the Program

The Master of Professional Accounting (CPA Australia Extension) program provides you with practical and theoretical knowledge, skills and expertise to become a literate and analytical practitioner in accounting.

This program is designed for graduates of non-accounting disciplines who wish to broaden their career prospects. The Master of Professional Accounting (CPA Australia Extension) aims to develop essential knowledge and skills in core areas of accounting and business with an appreciation of the social, environmental, cultural and ethical issues impacting on contemporary business environments. In addition to completing an accredited postgraduate qualification in Accounting, you will also complete the CPA Program Professional levels segments (MPA/CPA courses).

The capstone courses ACCT2279 Strategic Management Control Systems and ACCT2111 Accounting Thought and Ethics will give you the opportunity to critically reflect on this program’s curriculum. The course will promote the integration and synthesis of a range of knowledge and skills gained in the program and the application of these in discipline related real-world scenarios leading to work readiness or entry to graduate studies.

Graduates may gain employment in various sectors including public accounting practice, commercial and government organisations and a wide range of roles.

Entrance requirements

Academic Entrance Requirements

An Australian Bachelor degree or equivalent or higher level qualification in any discipline; or 

Successful completion of the RMIT Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting.

Entrance requirements for international onshore applicants
All non-Australian residents and overseas full-fee paying students are required to meet RMIT English language requirements. For more information on these requirements and acceptable English Language tests please see www.rmit.edu.au/international/english-equivalent

Enrolment in CPA titled courses

There is a three step process to enrol in CPA titled courses.

Step 1:  Enrol in the CPA course with CPA Australia

Step 2:  Complete the CPA Course Enrolment Request Form and attach a copy of your confirmation of enrolment with CPA Australia

Step 3:  The College will advise when you can add your RMIT/CPA titled course through Enrolment Online or OUA.

Specified credit/exemptions towards professional qualifications offered as part of the accreditation is subject to the applicant meeting set criteria defined by each professional body. Any application for credit/exemption should be made directly to the professional body and is the graduate's responsibility.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees. Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.
