Approach to learning and assessment

As firms contend with the transformation of their business, technological advancements and extended global reach there is an increasing demand for employees well versed in the mechanics of global trade. This requires a demand for new employees as well as the upskilling of current employees, particularly in emerging markets thanks to continued brisk growth in most of these economies. The most need will be in the developing economies in Asia.

The program is designed to be an adaptable program of study underpinned by hybrid student learning utilising the Canvas management platform that can be accessed anywhere, anytime throughout the semester in addition to face to face learning and significant industry engagement opportunities.

The Master of Global Trade is delivered as a full-time program with intensive learning sessions supported by media rich materials. Particular attention will be paid to presenting content in ways that expose students to the world of work, particularly content that covers the principles and practices related to the management and organisation of trade practices.

A variety of methodologies will be used, including the formal dissemination of content, audio-visual presentations, presentations by industry professionals, simulations and other complementary approaches, which provide opportunities for students to link the course’s content and skill development requirements with the management and organisation of work, workplaces and trade practices.

Through issue-based seminars, case study analyses, simulations, student presentations, student-based topic investigations, and online discussions, students will gain an understanding of the nature of the business constructs as they impact on the regulatory environment, business operations, organisational processes, and performance.

In keeping with its collaborative development origins, the program will be regularly updated through extensive consultation with market leaders across the value chain of trade and with reference to feedback in relation to student experiences. The intention is to identify and develop transferable and in demand skills and knowledge for a wide array of careers in international trade.

Students will jointly interact with recognised leaders and their collective expertise and valuable experience in order to gain exposure and further access to leading trade related companies and to also be engaged in meaningful events through the sponsoring organisation the Hinrich Foundation. The program is intended to help students to build an extensive business network, develop a global perspective on business practices and to stay informed with the changing business world.

The program offers students a well-paced leadership exposure and development to drive their careers to new heights and to develop global leaders who create positive impacts on the business, community and the sustainability of international trade.

Assessment

The assessment philosophy utilises a range of appropriate measures linked to the program and course outcomes. Assessment tasks include: business plan/reports, academic essays, in-class and online presentations, blogs, group reports, examinations and computer simulations.

A critical feature of all assessment tasks is the requirement to link academic content with work-based experiences. Reflective practice is encouraged to apply new knowledge and insights towards effective personal learning and the development of professional business practices.

A key feature of the program, and that of RMIT Vietnam is the commitment to authentic assessment where assessment tasks are co- developed with industry and are intended, wherever possible, to mirror real practice.

The assessments are designed to provide students with opportunities to demonstrate the extent to which they have achieved specific learning outcomes in a given area. Methods of assessment will also vary with the learning outcomes of the relevant course that may include case studies, research projects and reports.

Academic integrity

The originality verification software Turnitin (see http://www.turnitin.com), may be used on assessments in your program.
