Objectives of the program

Upon graduating with a Master of Engineering from RMIT University in the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering you may enter into a PhD program or an industrial research based role as well as other high-level engineering professions.  Additionally, you will hold a postgraduate qualification that will enable you to provide high level, research-based and problem solving advice in a variety of manufacturing industries.  In fact, graduates will also be able to take advantage of holding an internationally recognised degree from a highly reputable university which is globally well known.

Entrance requirements

As an applicant for the Masters Degree by Research you must have:

  • Qualified for a first degree from RMIT with at least a credit average in the final undergraduate year; or
  • Qualified for another recognised award deemed to be equivalent in character and standard to a first degree from RMIT with at least a credit average in the final undergraduate year; or
  • Produced evidence of appropriate experience which satisfies the College/School that the applicant has developed knowledge of the field of study sufficient to undertake the proposed program.

International onshore applicants will also be required to meet the following English Language Requirements:

  • IELTS –  6.5+ (no band less than 6.0) or TOEFL paper based - 580+ (TWE 4.5+) paper based or TOEFL (iBT) overall score 92, minimum 20 in all sections.

These entrance requirements are the minimum academic standard you must meet in order to be eligible to apply for the program. Some research programs at RMIT also have extra requirements that may be requested from you as part of the selection process such as:

  • an interview
  • a test
  • and/or folio.
