Expression of interest - Micro Nano Research Facility Works Contract

RMIT University invites suitably qualified construction companies to submit an Expression of Interest for construction of the new Micro Nano Research Facility (MNRF).

The MNRF will be a highly specialised facility supporting world class micro and nano research technology in ISO 5 and ISO 7 clean rooms. These clean rooms will have a high concentration of specialist equipment supported by services such as RO and Ultra Pure water, and a number of specialist gases. The ISO 5 clean rooms will be air conditioned using multiple ceiling mounted HEPA fan filter units that recirculate via a perforated raised floor and side support rooms. The ISO 7 clean rooms will utilise large HEPA fan filter units located in the side support rooms.

Constructed on Level 4 of Building 7 on the City campus, the new facility has a floor area of approximately 1,000m2 plus a 500m2 dedicated rooftop plant platform enclosure to accommodate new plant and equipment together with a specialist gas store and new fume stacks. The existing building is more than 50 years old and requires a number of minor works to make it suitable for its new use. These works include structural strengthening of isolated areas to accommodate vibration sensitive equipment, sealing of the walls, floors and ceiling, and remedial work to the roof membrane and stormwater drainage system. In addition, the existing passenger lift is to be replaced by a new MRL passenger / goods lift that will be extended to service the roof level and provide passenger lock-off for the safe transportation of gas cylinders.

The campus itself is a live environment with a large population of staff and students. Vehicle access to the site is restricted, and it should be anticipated that the lower floors of Building 7 and adjoining buildings will be active throughout the construction period, even during semester breaks.

Base building works are to take place between November 2013 and March 2014, with the specialist equipment and gas services installation and commissioning to be completed between April 2014 and June 2014.
